i've always wondered how the pious believe god has directed a process that is partially random (gene mutation), has no goal other than survival, creates imperfect creatures, and leaves a path of enormous suffering and extinct species?

aside from that, one must wonder how a believer in god-directed evolution could have any problem with homosexuality considering how rampant it is in non-human animals, a product of evolution that has merely followed life to humans.

And how could a rational deity allow the existence of stupid text/net terms like "lol," unless accompanied by "fart" and "*bye" ???

Oh I wanted to give CB his a way to find his answers. I hope he finds what he's looking for. Maybe those threads will help?

also, to attempt to answer this question, although I'm sure it's fruitless to do so, but whatever:

If evolution is a set of random processes, that left, and continue to leave, a swath of destruction in its path with no other perceptible purpose than survival, etc, etc - wouldn't it be logical enough for one of the pious to believe that a "God" kicked off the process and allowed it continue along whatever measurable course (as enumerated above) due to the concept of free will?
not that I think ceebs will accept anything in that light as "logical" ...

well the simplest way to square the two would be god rolled the snowball down the hill, eventually it was snow boulder, but he hasn't done a thing since he pushed that snowball down the hill.

of course, but i was talking about squaring god-driven evolution; that is, that god consciously directed evolution the whole way through.

Maybe all he did was push the snowball but knew exactly which individual snowflakes it would eventually take on.

I'm far from a science major so this may seem like a horribly stupid question. How long have humnas been around? What's the average evolution cycle been for the line of species leading to humans?

for a long time there was nothing. then there was bacteria, then a few million more years more, better types of bacteria. then a few more million years later, exploded into everything. humans have been around a short amount of time compared to evolution.
