Funny this thread was started. My wife and I are looking at houses and I was actually wondering how certain neighborhoods feel about clotheslines and whether or not people bitch about them. There seems to be some sort of trashiness stigma associated with them (at least the woman showing us one of the houses thought so), but I like to hang dry certain clothes and never thought of them that way. We just put the line in back out of sight from the road. Good for the environment and it cheapens the elec. bill considerably.

Yeah, the real problem doesn't seem to be local governments as it is homeowner's associations trying to micromanage lifestyles.

Actually, I've been to Mostro City and it's more of a bucolic monstro-hamlet than what we would call a city.

This is a picture of the patio we're having built. I had them put that tall post on the corner closest to you, so I could install a retractable clothesline between the patio and that post.
That's small potatoes, but is there anything more American than bed sheets hanging on clotheslines in a backyard?
