I am having a debate with a person about same-sex marriages. I see nothing wrong with it and he does.
Here's his line of reasoning:
---------------------------
A person wants to marry his Mom. She's a widow and too old to conceive . . . . (or) . . . . he's adopted and she's divorced.
Anything wrong with that?
I mean, "they truly love each other" and want it "recognized as such".
----------------------------
Any comments

Sounds like your friend's got some issues he needs to work out.
Seriously though, my challenge to anyone who can present any logical argument against same-sex marriage that is not based in religion or sentimentality is still open.

I personally think if same-sex marriage is legal, it should be legal to marry your cousins or siblings or dog or whatever. After all, you love each other, right?

I'm going to marry your dog.
awesome!
Anyway, the pro-hetero-marriage-only argument is a lame one at best.
Anyway you look at it, it is discrimination against homosexuals.
That is the problem with faith-based legislation.

how about a child?
that is, unless you can honestly say dogs have more mental capacity than children to decide whether they want a human being to fuck or marry them.
Now, the correct quote, if you like your own reasoning, should be "I personally think if marriage is recognized by the state then it should recognize unions between siblings, etc."

But that would make way too much sense.
After I marry and divorce that guy's dog, I'm going to marry you, David.

so is stopping someone from having sex with animals is discrimination against those who are into beastiality, isnt it?
and please dont say its not natural, cause the argument can be said the same for a man loving a man
now a woman loving a woman is a different ball game, well, cause im a guy

Beastiality is a crime because the animals cannot consent.
The same goes for incest, rape, and pedophilia.
That will not change and should not.
But for consenting adults, the story is completely different.

well, im pretty sure a daughter who is 16 or 18 can consent to letting daddy ravage her if she so chooses, and so can a young boy, so there goes that theory right?
so as an example, a person who is severely mentally challenged should never have sex or be married, cause they are not in charge of their faculties to make that consent, correct?

I think the laws regarding consent are correct and true.
If we do not allow consenting adults to marry, based on their sexual orientation, that is definately discrimination.
Non-consenting adults (mentally handicapped, raped, coerced) and children under the age of 18 do not apply because they cannot legally consent.
It makes sense to me, and millions of others.

no, legislation against bestiality is protecting animal rights, just as legislating against child molestation is protecting children, not "discriminating" against pedophiles.

you should learn your laws, many states, age of consent is 16
and for the record, what a couple, whether man and man, woman and woman, or man and woman do sexually with each other, is their business, and noone elses

16, fine, as long as that is the legal age of consent.
The whole thing depends on consent.
And you're right, consenting adults should be able to do as they please and should be able to marry (recieving all of the rights and privledges that come with that).
And call it marriage as well.
cool beans.
