This issue is ludicrous. The panel in NYC that actually thinks they are helping are just kidding themselves. Will have ZERO impact on obesity rates. What has more calories? A big gulp or the same size OJ? They both make you fat if you DRINK TOO MUCH. It's not complicated. If you want to lose weight, stop eating so much. The audacity of the government thinking they have the right to ban stuff like this, and make decisions like this, is appalling to me.

I had the same thought about Starbucks. As it turns out, the all-knowing NYC BOARD OF HEALTH has them in their sights, also.

"In the case of Starbucks, the city plans to pore over barista training manuals to determine specific quantities of ingredients."

Too much government. Too many lawyers. Too many politicians. Too complicated a tax code. Too many redundant federal and state departments. Too much money going into too sectors of our economy that produce waste and breed laziness (i'm talking about you Dept of Education)...

Come on, OJ is way more filling than pop. I could probably go through a two liter of MDew in a couple hours with wings, wendys, or pizza easy, but a 2 liter of OJ? Hell no, let alone accompanied by food.

And don't forget finance in your list of waste.

Also, to bi, smart analysis these last couple pages.

It is relatively easy for people who live in dense urban areas to start vegetable gardens.

Indeed it is.

So much for that.

Michigan has no monopoly on such idiocy, it would seem:

I'm not sure if it was said in this thread before, but the only legitimate excuse that I've seen for blaming obesity on something that can be out of control of the person in question is having a lack of time. If you're working long hours, have a long commute, and have to run various errands before you finally get home, it's all too easy to just say "fuck it" and go through the McD's drive thru. Unfortunately, I don't see any simple policy change that can overcome it--the best idea I can come up with would be to provide incentives for organizations to have cheap yet healthy food available at a convenient time. Even then, if one really has the willpower they can change their lifestyle to find more time in the day to cook their own meals, but it's a lot harder than simply hitting the Water button at the fountain instead of the Coke button.

Oh, and it's safe to say that I think that Bloomberg's proposal is a joke.

Thanks for the link. Its interesting that the various overbearing initiatives of busybody governments are so frequently at odds with each other.
