If this is a dumb thread idea, just delete it. If it's been done already (not in the election thread though), delete it.
Thing is, there seems to be a huge infatuation with this guy. I've never seen such a large group of people get so passionate about one politician. I want to feel that way too, but I can't figure out what exactly it is that's so appealing to you all. Obviously the next president should be much, much different than the current one, and John McCain isn't. That to me though, isn't enough to justify a vote. Obama's a great speaker, very charasmatic. I haven't really heard anything though that makes me say, "wow, he knows what to do".
So what is it, exactly, that you think he'll do so well that makes you want to vote for him? All I can think of is his 16 month strategy to get out of Iraq, and there's been rumors already that he may not hold to that.
This isn't meant to start a debate. I kind of just looking for detailed reasons as to why you're voting for him. I'd also like to hear why you're voting for someone else if Obama's not your choice.

What is he going to change though?
I think he'll try and get us out of Iraq, which is a good change.
I also think he'll raises taxes, which I think is a bad change, especially since it will probably be mostly directed at businesses, and the last thing this economy needs it's more obstacles to doing business here.

I'm going to vote for John McCain, because he maximizes my individualism by keeping rich peoples' taxes low and they are more likely to pay me better because they'll have more money

Why would someone interested in smaller government ever vote for the modern-day Republican?

I typed out a whole bunch of incoherent run-on sentences, but I guess I can just say that I'm voting for Barack Obama because I think that the U.S. needs a President with a clear vision of what America is and what America should and could be with a bit of hard work.

I am not decided if im going to vote for him.
I will say this about Obama...
and this is both a great thing and a scary thing.
However, I watch Obama speak and he gets me fired up to support shit i dont even support. He is a fantastic salesman, and that ability to arouse emotion and passion would probably do a lot of the "uniting" you hear about, both with the legislature and leaders of other countries. He appears to be a leader in the truest sense of the word- my only concern would be what he would be leading us to.

New thread idea!

This is exactly how I feel, and I wonder how many people out there (I don't mean people on this board) ARE voting for him just because he is a great salesman without actually knowing who he is.
I have never voted for a democrat other than my local house representative. I just don't agree with most of their philosophies. I like a lot of their moral views -- separation of church and state, pro-abortion/stem cell/gay rights, etc.... but I don't want high taxes and even higher spending. I don't want some massive taxpayer funded healthcare system. I don't want the US engaging in military conflicts in Europe (Mr Bill). I DO want someone that's will fund alternative energy like I believe Obama will -- but I don't want someone that has even the slightest view that current high gas prices are ok so that we "drive less", like Obama has hinted at. I want an overhaul of the social service sytem (I don't mind helping people, but I do mind supporting them for years -- make them work if possible by paying for daycare instead of handing them checks).
I don't know. I wonder if Obama would give me any of this. I do believe he is the lesser of the two evils. I will not vote for McCain even if I agree equally with him as I do with Obama because I want out of Iraq. I'm not the type to cast a vote unless I believe in the candidate though, I can't do it just because he's the lesser of the two evils.
