i already like this thread, and have ideas on what i'd like to read.

some history, a bit of foreign policy, some econ (particularly applied econ), a book or two on religion...could be good times.

I want a little philosophy. Political philosophy if I have my 'druthers, but either way.

Haha, I was just thinking that I used that word twice today. A rare event!

Had I known about this, I would have gotten Shah instead of Page Smith's John Adams.

Are you reading both volumes? When your finished I'd be interested to hear what you think about it.

Yeah, I'll ready both volumes... Eventually. At the chapter a day rate I'm going, it'll take two months.

I just started History of Political Philosophy edited by Leo Strauss and Joseph Cropsey. This fucker is 1000 pages and about the size of a paperback textbook. So I'll be able to join you guys in about 2 weeks when I finish this.

I'd be interested in joining (though I'm in the middle of reading Darwin's The Origin of Species and I don't have much time for reading).
Shah would be easy as it's out here too (the other mentioned are imports, that one is even at my local library  )

So what do you think of Adams (the person, not the book) at this point?

A suggestion...
Put the current book title in the thread title to make it easier for the group (instead of trolling threw dozens of pages).

And maybe in the title or the 1st post put where the discussion starts for the current book? 8)

I agree about the book title in the thread title. I think this thread is going to be a basic discussion thread about the idea in general. People can say if they've read the book, or when they'll be starting. They can also toss out ideas for future topics/books if they want. Some time next week once a few people have started the book, we'll make a new thread specific to All The Shah's Men. This thread can continue to be used as the idea thread for what to read next, etc.

Or at least that's what I had in mind. How does that sound?

This will be the first book that we will be reading. Right now we're looking at beginning the discussion thread sometime next week. Although if it would encourage more participation, perhaps we can wait until June 29th. So far the following people are set to participate:

1. dkfan9
2. thodoks
3. 04/05
4. Buffalohed
5. Pegasus (tentative)
6. homersheineken

Please feel free to invite others who may not have opened this thread. The more people we get the better this could be.

So each book will have its own thread then?
