This is something I think about sometimes. I'm yet to decide

"When you choose to eat the chocolate cake or the plain one, are you really free to decide?" asks Conway. In other words, could someone who has been tracking all the particle interactions in the universe predict with perfect accuracy the cake you will pick? The answer, it seems, depends on whether quantum mechanics' inherent uncertainty is the correct description of reality or 't Hooft is right in saying that beneath that uncertainty there is a deterministic order.

Two different things. I'm all for merging, but only to a point!

I'm just ribbin' ya.
But I haven't been able to bring myself to post in the meaning of life thread yet, and now you expect me to try to come up with something on another of the universe's imponderables?

Yes. I'm relying on your wisdom here PD!
I think it's a good question, though seemingly the more you think about it, the harder it becomes to answer

My roomate was in this evolutionary psychology class, and his new worldview fucked with my mind. Basically, every set of choices we have is tied to reproduction. Damn you, science!

It's essentially what we're here for, so yeah. Though survival is usually paramount

Haha. I had a feeling that might come off like that.

So by making this thread, you were hoping to get laid?
I was hoping to increase my understanding of other's opinions on the subject, thus increasing my knowledge and intelligence- thereby increasing my chances of getting laid?

Are you fucking kidding me? Hooft came up with a hairbrained idea and then developed a mathematical system that made it supposedly work; even though that's the mathematician's method, it's not the scientific method. I wish him great luck in proving his notions through extensive, peer-reviewed lab study. As of now, the poor guy is tracing Albert's path in attempting to disprove something he just plain doesn't like. Dr. Einstein spent the last decades of his life trying to disprove it, and he couldn't. I doubt Hooft will, although the fact that QM didn't sit well with the likes of someone like Einstein speaks volumes.
John Conway is guilty of being an armchair philosopher, unless he was just trying to dumb it down for the media. Science should previde results and leave it in the realm of philosophers to interpret them.
As a stupid aside, there's also another semi-famous mathematician named John Conway at another university.

I don't think I agree with Hooft either (possibly just because I tend to side with chao and uncertainty over order), but I felt the need to substantiate... beef up, if you will, this thread with an article
My point remains the thread title.

not really, the more intelligent the woman is, smaller her chances of getting laid.

This did occur to me, but an intelligent woman could surely think of more ways to coerce another to mate? Besides, not all methods of trying to increase one's chances of reproducing are successful

Not chances, but actual occurances. If you smart women just wanted a piece of meat you could dumb it down and be like all the other bar broads.
