A tsunami swept into Pago Pago in American Samoa shortly after an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.9 shook the Pacific area.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Honolulu issued a tsunami warning for American Samoa and other areas of the Pacific, including New Zealand.
A tsunami watch was posted elsewhere, including Hawaii and the Marshall Islands.
The quake hit at 6.48am Tuesday midway between Samoa and American Samoa. In the Samoan capital, Apia, families fled their homes for higher ground amid severe shaking that lasted for up to three minutes.

Quake leads to tsunami, killing 99 in Somoa AP
A powerful earthquake in the South Pacific hurled a massive tsunami at the shores of Samoa and American Samoa, flattening villages and sweeping cars and people out to sea, leaving at least 99 dead and dozens missing.
Survivors fled the fast-churning water for higher ground and remained huddled there hours after the quake struck early Tuesday. Signs of devastation were everywhere, with a giant boat washed ashore lying on the edge of a highway and floodwaters swallowing up cars and homes.
The quake, with a magnitude between 8.0 and 8.3, struck around dawn about 125 miles (200 kilometers) from Samoa, an island nation of 180,000 people located about halfway between New Zealand and Hawaii. It struck about 120 miles (190 kilometers) from neighboring American Samoa, a U.S. territory that is home to 65,000 people.
Four tsunami waves 15 to 20 feet (4 to 6 meters) high roared ashore on American Samoa, reaching up to a mile (1.6 kilometers) inland, Mike Reynolds, superintendent of the National Park of American Samoa, was quoted as saying by a parks service spokeswoman.
Hampered by power and communications outages, officials struggled to determine damage and casualties.

How funny will that be when the side of the volcano in Gran Canaria slides off sending the biggest tsunami on record heading towards the US eastern seaboard? that's due in the next 10 years or so..

It'd hurt black people too! not that that matters if Katrina was anything to go by!
right, if it comes we'd need to send out a "white" beacon to alert the blancos and put operation human shield into effect, w/ the first line of defense the mexicans and chinamen and the second line of defense the africans.

Wouldn't they just be hired for the rebuild? or would that be my people? we 'built' America apparently..
That volcano is due to drop its side off into the Atlantic & that tsunami is expected to happen. Pretty big one too. Saw a thing on Discovery about it.

if you're talking about MY island, then you're mistaken. my ancestors, your people, build railroads and win civil wars depending on which harbor you land in... so actually the plan would be that once the mexicans, chinamen and africans are taken care of through operation human shield, it would be a great solution, call it final solution if you like, for the american unemployment problem.
