I used to ride BART fairly regularly as a youth, and never experienced a hot boxed bart car, I'm afraid. Did have my wallet stolen once, and was exposed to who knows how many vectors and the stench of urine-soaked chair cushions. Ahhh, public transportation.

i rode it once. to get from SF airport to OAK airport, and there were clouds billowing out at each stop.
So... they passed high speed rail. Some polls suggest that a majority of voters are against it (primarily due to budgetary concerns, it never having any chance of paying back the investment, etc. etc.) Whats disconcerting to me is that any more than a tiny majority thought this was a good idea. I guess you can get anyhing pushed through if you just appeal to 'progress' or 'greatness', and hearken back to glory days that probably never existed.
It'll be fun to see more moderate democrats fight environmentalists for every mile of track.
years from now mexicans will take pride in saying their people built this amazing accomplishment of modern engineering, just like the irish & chinese do when discussing the transcontinental.
Californians were embarrassed Europeans have something they don't. And the last thing a lib wants is to be looked down on by Europeans.
It is interesting that Cali will fund this rail project but it's largest community college system is about to go bankrupt. What's the term for this... "cargo cult"?
