That's interesting.
I like the maps (I forget what they're called) where the US map is stretched arnd resized to be proportional to the population in each state and voting district. Then they do the red state/blue state or red district/blue district coloring, and it shows a much more 50/50 country than a standard US map whith red and blue states.

What does "U.S. Ancestry" mean? It can't mean "born in the U.S." or even "parents born in the U.S." Look at the map. There's no way that in most of the country less than 5% of people are of "U.S. Ancestry", but in Appalachia, everyone is.
Thanks for the map, GH. It's shit.

I feel cheated.
Don't feel bad, there's only a census every 10 years, so even the most up-to-date info would still be 5 years old.

I'd have to question what constitutes "US Ancestry" as interpretted by the makers of this map. You have any background info on the makings of this map? Just curious, because it looks suspicious to me.

My thoughts exactly. Even still, United States isn't an ethnic group or even a defining characteristic of people really. This is of no significance to me.

Sure, completely shoot down my thread.
I'll find a better one in the future.
heh, well one thing is clear, and that is that people from Utah aren't real Americans.

I went to the website and looked at the other maps, so I think I understand what this map means now. They asked people on the census about their ancestry, although the choices were retarded. You've got about 15 or 20 choices for various northern european countries (Scottish and Scotch-Irish were two of the choices ), and one of the choices was U.S. ancestry. No choices for Asian, African, or other world ethnicities, although they did have a general hispanic choice.
Anyway, it seems that the people in the south either didn't understand the question (everyone in Utah answered "English" BTW), or they can only trace their ancestry back to when their folk emerged from the woods with a Bible and a dead raccoon 75-100 years ago.
