How many people here have them?

Not just Wills but Living Wills. How did you make them? Did you go to a live attorney or do it online? What did you say in your Living Will? Did you tell them to pull the plug?

I'm just curious.

I've been thinking about this more recently.... never worried about it until I got married.
Do you have one, given?

I don't. That's what made me make the thread.

I have no dependents so I'm not worried about it from that perspective. However, I have assets and I would like to see where they go. The "living will" is even more important and I feel like we should all have one even though I do not.

It seems you can make both a will and a living will for under $40 online. They mail you the documents after you fill them out and I assume you get them notarized. I only started looking at it 10 minutes before I made this thread.

I encourage all of you with dependents, whether children or spouse, to make a will. It doesn't matter how big your assets are. Depending on the state, it will be stuck in probate and it will cost your dependents a lot of money and time before they get any of it.

Obviously, if you have children your will is even more important because you need to determine who takes care of them in the case both you and your spouse die.

A few years ago, I PM'd internet user cutuphalfdead with the instructions that if my death is ever announced on RM, he is to reply with an "Are you fucking serious?"

My wife and I just signed our wills, living wills, power of attorney, and healthcare power of attorney this past week and used an actual, flesh-and-blood lawyer.

We have a very small estate, so basically, it all gets pooled and put into a trust for the person caring for our kids. What's left gets split between the boys equally when they turn 25.

For the living will, you designate whether you'd like lifesaving measures if you're (a) very likely to die in a very short time and will not wake up, (b) going to live as a vegetable, or (c) going to be conscious with no cognitive ability. I designated that I must be taken off life support for a and b and left c up to my wife and/or her back-up.

I dunno, I think it would have been fitting if you left C to an RM poll.

Quite frankly I don't want or need to have a will - i feel that my government is 100 % responsible and fair when it comes to money.

Anyone who has children should have this done, no matter the size of the estate. Yes, I have mine.

Given the state of my health in recent past, I've also a living will, durable power of attorney/health care proxy. These documents can usually be picked up at your local hospital and completed if you don't care to get an attorney involved.

Death really brings out the worst in people/families. Everyone should protect their children & assets.

I have a will because of my son. Leaves him enough to get through school, get a car and keep the home. rest goes to charities. I should get a living will though.

If you're serious, how do you expect your loved ones to find it?

I think many people of our generation will do this. I wonder if there is a better way to make sure it's found.

My wife and I had one drawn up by a lawyer before our son was born. Covers who gets what in our "estate" and who would care for our son in case something happens to us.

It's a must once you have kids.
