You hear a voice, in your head. The voice tells you that humanity is on a path towards extinction, and you know to the depths of your soul that this is true. There is no question.

However, the voice tells you that you have the power to change that. You are the only person who is in a position to do the things necessary to save humanity from its imminent annihilation.

If you choose to do everything the voice instructs you to do, and say everything it tells you to say, in the way it tells you to do it, you WILL save humanity. You know this to be true, to the depths of your soul.

You will be asked to kill people. You will be asked to kill innocent people. You will be asked to, directly or indirectly, kill people whom you love. These deaths are absolutely necessary to save humanity. They are unavoidable.

You will not be remembered by history as the one who saved humanity from its own destruction. You will be remembered, if you are remembered at all, as a bloodthirsty monster, and your name will be reviled.

Do you listen to the voice and save humanity? Remember, you have no doubt whatsoever in your mind that your doing so is the ONLY way for humanity to survive.

No, I immediately check myself into a mental institution.

I'm not sure why I'd ever want to save humanity, so I'd probably kill myself to make sure it doesn't happen.

No, you don't. Crazy or not, you have no doubt that the words are true, and you know you're not crazy.

Pretty much this.

Knowing what I know about the human abilitypropensity to believe something utterly absurd down to the very deepest dark dank damp dungy depths of their soul, I most certainly would.

I expect that most people wouldn't do it simply because they lack the balls. If anyone were to do it though, it would certainly be the very religious, who are accustomed to having absurd foundational beliefs.

I basically believe that there is no such thing as subjective moral justification.

If I have to kill any of the people I love, who anymore are the only people I really give a fuck about, then no, I wouldn't. Humanity will or won't be destroyed on its own accord.

I find it hilarious that anyone who spent time in the military thinks only the very religious would act on the voice. Isn't part of military training taking commands with next to no thought? Creating bogus enemies just so you can kill tem?

It WILL be destroyed. There is no question.

I'd rather save innocents and the people I love than save the human race. Most humans suck and our species is probably doomed anyway.

Or, you're from a small town and certain paramilitary orginisations tell you you're they're going to put you through college, everything paid for and you're going to study engineering/electronics or accountancy and you're going to do well at it('cos you and/or your family are fucked otherwise)then graduate, and go work for them. It's not as easy as you guys think it is sometimes.

am i me in this scenario, or can i choose to be Jason Bourne?

if i'm Jason Bourne I don't even blink before i start painting walls w/ brains and being reviled.

if i'm me, i probably fap on it, have a tuna melt, ask my brother what he thinks, shovel the snow off my car, and post a thread on RM entitled: "HOW WE CAN SAVE THE WORLD!!!!1!!!!!"
