I can hardly even comprehend what I'm reading here.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/11/10/amazon ... tml?hpt=T2

"The Pedophile's Guide To Love & Pleasure: A Child Lover's Code Of Conduct" -- this was a self-published book put up on Amazon, got a few thousand angry comments, users demanding it be removed.

my favorite part of the article

Quote:
The author of the controversial tome said he publised it to address what he considers unfair portrayals of pedophiles in the media.

"True pedophiles love children and would never hurt them," Phillip R. Greaves II said in a phone interview with CNN on Wednesday.

When asked if the self-published e-book was a "how-to manual," he said, "there are certain parts that are advisory," which set out lines that should not be crossed.

"Penetration is out. You can't do that with a child, but kissing and fondling I don't think is that big of a problem," he said.

What. THE FUCK.

Did the remove it? I shows up in their search results, but when you try to navigate to it, it says the page was not found.

Oh, and I was just trying to see the angry reviews. I wasn't interested in purchasing it or anything.

Amazon really fucked up on this one. I can't help but think that this is going to hit them in the pocket book in a pretty serious fashion as I think there will be a number of people who have purchased from them in the past who are going to stop doing so. Huge break-down on their part in screening what they do or do not choose to sell via their service.

I think their official position is that they don't screen what they sell. From their perspective, they don't want to accidentally censor a perfectly legitimate idea. Do they screen a book that promotes sex with people who are several years younger? Sex with people who are young enough to be your children, but legally adults? Books that argue the limit for statutory rape should be lowered one year? Books that argue that sexual relations with minors is not OK, but going home and masturbating to minors is OK? Where exactly do they draw the line?

Their philosophy is obviously that they should let the customer draw the line, because no matter where they draw it, there will either be people complaining that they sell objectionably material, or people complaining that they censor ideas. They can't win.

I don't have a problem with Amazon offering this book. It's not their place to judge what is objectionable and what is not. I do have a serious problem with anybody who purchases this book, however.

Bullshit. So you're saying it's okay for them to sell books which instruct people how to make bombs, manufacture methamphetamine or how to commit the perfect murder? BOLLOCKS. ABSOLUTE BOLLOCKS.

You can learn how to make a bomb by spending a few hours in a public library.

Yes and you can learn to diddle children from reading Where Did I Come From. What is your point?

My point is ban actions, not ideas.

Yes, like the selling of the book.
