Please tell me they didn't burn the Bourbon!
What are they really fighting here? I demand my cheap education how dare I have to bare the cost of becoming intelligent and later being able to sustain myself!
That little green ground in that area though is mostly crazy people. If there's a person with a cause they are out there daily. I don't think it's indicative of the majority of people. Everyone hates cost increases.

This situation very much reminds me of a quote from an article on PJ O'Rourke that I read this morning:
Quote:
In Don’t Vote!, he slams a culture of “gimme rights” and demands personal responsibility. When his 12-year-old daughter complains that life isn’t fair, he tells her: “Honey, you’re cute. That’s not fair. You’re smart. That’s not fair. You were born in the United States of America. That’s not fair. Darling, you had better get down on your knees and pray to God that things don’t start getting fair for you.”
We would dance in the streets if our college tuitions were changed to 14K a year.
Let's be honest. A lot, if not most, of the protesters are not actually students but predatory opportunists who are leveraging the situation for their own causes. Some of them to lash out at the Torries, some of them to lash out at capitalism, some of them to just watch London burn. They embarrass themselves and their cause by continuing the violent protests. They should be going all tea-party on the place and publicly conspiring to get those who supported the changes voted out in the next election. Of course nothing gets set on fire in that plan, so no young idealist revolutionaries would support it.

Evidence for this?
In addition, they ARE conspiring to get rid of those who supported the changes. Most of the vitriol seems to be against the Lib Dems, not the tories. Have you seen their latest opinion polls?

Fair play to anyone in Lib/Con seats who voted Lib Dem, including students. However, anyone who decided to fuck the country over by voting Lib Dem in Lib/Lab seats and Lab/Con seats, I have no sympathy for, student or not. Are these tuition fees Karma?

No idea where such an impression would come from, since here they are attacking the Lib-Dems HQ, and shouting "Liberal Scum".
LOL @ "If they won't listen to us, then we have to take a stand." What she means is; "If they won't obey us, we will commit actions of violence until they cower in fear and give in to our demands."

Right now tuition is capped at around 5000 usd (not sure if it's a year or semester but whatever) and under new legislation they'll be allowed to charge just under 15000 usd.

That and these disgusting, offensive, oppressive changes:
•• Support for living costs available to all through an annual loan of £3,750. No means testing for access to loans for living costs. •• Additional support for students from families with an income below £60,000 per year, up to £3,250 in grants •• Students pay nothing up front. Graduates only make payments when they are earning above £21,000 per year. •• Payments are affordable – 9% of any income above £21,000. •• If earnings drop, then payments drop. If graduates stop work for whatever reason, then payments stop as well. •• The payment threshold is reviewed regularly to bring it into line with growth in earnings •• The interest rate on the loans is the low rate that Government itself pays on borrowing money. There is a rebate for low earners. •• Any balance remaining after 30 years is written off

Makes me sick.
I would never stand for that. Ever.

So basically they are protesting a ridiculously fair and generous system. I wonder how they would feel about paying at least double what they do now, and then being expected to re-pay that money(sometimes before completion of studies) regardless of how much money they make or what their situation is.

Once a privilege becomes a right, people really feel entitled to it. It takes an enormous amount of maturity and intellectual honesty to accept the end of such privileges when you benefit from them.
