Well it is about time this poor man got back to living his normal life. People see a strong, successful man and they just have to take him down, cut him down a peg or ten. "Mr Strauss-Kahn, you have a history of sexually predatory behavior"..."The maid's story is backed up by multiple pieces of physical evidence"..."Mr Bundy, the teeth marks on that dead coed's ass match your teeth precisely"...these people will stop at NOTHING to tear you down.

I think it's pretty darn obvious that this "Maid" found out about a vulnerable wealthy Frenchman, learned French so she could read about the past allegations against him, then learned about the United States' tort system and got a job at the very hotel she KNEW this guy would be staying at, then lay in wait to spring this trap. Then the New York political elite, who of course are all TOTALLY biased against wealthy tycoons, helped her seal the deal. It was almost too perfect.

And to think, if she hadn't spoken over the phone to a friend (who was in JAIL, by the way, and not one of those innocent guys who get thrown in jail over total misunderstandings) in a rare African dialect that was translated by some unknown person and related third hand to the media, this poor man would still be locked away. SHAMEFUL.

SHAMEFUL.

Is Bernard-Henri Lévy having the best week ever?

Quote:
Last spring, it seemed like everyone was hating on French philosopher/public intellectual/serial chest-hair exhibitionist Bernard-Henri Lévy. It was bad enough that he had helped push President Nicolas Sarkozy's government into an intervention in Libya that appeared to be settling into an endless quagmire. Then in May, he was pilloried for going on record to defend his friend Dominique Strauss-Kahn from sexual assault charges that he compared to a lynching and the Dreyfus Affair. Some even went as far as to wonder whether the Libya invasion would have happened if the Strauss-Kahn affair, and the damage to BHL's reputation that ensued, had come first.

This week, Muammar al-Qaddafi's regime fell with relatively little blood and treasure expended by the countries that intervened (Lévy has already been out in front, communicating with both Sarkozy and the National Transitional Council), and tomorrow, the charges against Strauss-Kahn are likely to be dropped. What's next? An acquittal for Roman Polanski? A global button shortage?

Of course, this week's events don't necessarily mean Lévy was right about either issue: We'll never really know what happened in Strauss-Kahn's hotel room, and the future of Libya is obviously still far from settled. And his detractors may still feel justified in considering him a shameless self-promoter, overrated writer, and absurdly sloppy researcher. But he's still probably entitled to spike the ball this week.

Quote:
May 14, 2011, was a horrendous day for Dominique Strauss-Kahn, then head of the International Monetary Fund and leading contender to unseat Nicolas Sarkozy as president of France in the April 2012 elections. Waking up in the presidential suite of the Sofitel New York hotel that morning, he was supposed to be soon enroute to Paris and then to Berlin where he had a meeting the following day with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. He could not have known that by late afternoon he would, instead, be imprisoned in New York on a charge of sexual assault. He would then be indicted by a grand jury on seven counts of attempted rape, sexual assault, and unlawful imprisonment, placed under house arrest for over a month, and, two weeks before all the charges were dismissed by the prosecutor on August 23, 2011, sued for sexual abuse by the alleged victim.

He knew he had a serious problem with one of his BlackBerry cell phones—which he called his IMF BlackBerry. This was the phone he used to send and receive texts and e-mails—including for both personal and IMF business. According to several sources who are close to DSK, he had received a text message that morning from Paris from a woman friend temporarily working as a researcher at the Paris offices of the UMP, Sarkozy’s center-right political party. She warned DSK, who was then pulling ahead of Sarkozy in the polls, that at least one private e-mail he had recently sent from his BlackBerry to his wife, Anne Sinclair, had been read at the UMP offices in Paris.1 It is unclear how the UMP offices might have received this e-mail, but if it had come from his IMF BlackBerry, he had reason to suspect he might be under electronic surveillance in New York. He had already been warned by a friend in the French diplomatic corps that an effort would be made to embarrass him with a scandal. The warning that his BlackBerry might have been hacked was therefore all the more alarming.
