Falklands conflict MKII? The first pebbles of the avalanche? nothing drags the world from recession like a good old fashioned war http://presstv.com/detail/225532.html
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez warned that if the British Empire decides to attack Argentina, Venezuela would come to help its sister nation, now that the territorial dispute that the South American country holds with the United Kingdom over the Falkland Islands has intensified.
The statements were triggered by the UK’s decision to send a warship to the Falkland Islands, and possibly a nuclear submarine.
Chavez believes the move is ridiculous and the UK should instead leave the islands, and obey United Nations resolutions that say both countries should negotiate.
The country members of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of our America, ALBA, also support Argentina's claim on the Falklands. Ecuador’s president Rafael Correa and Chavez pledged to evaluate potential sanctions on Britain if the European nation continues to refuse to talk with Argentina.
The Falkland Islands, known in Spanish as Malvinas, were the scenario for the war that 30 years ago granted the UK power over the archipelago that also includes the South Georgia and South Sandwich islands, and which is located more than 12,000 kilometres away from Britain.
Venezuela's support for Argentina comes at a time when the region appears stronger and more united than before, with a common vision against neocolonialism and imperialism.

Sure, I'll take your word for it, presstv.

The highlighted part is the meat of the issue i'd imagne.
"Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has called on Britain's Queen Elizabeth II to hand over the Falklands Islands to Argentina. Mr Chavez said he supported Argentina's protests over planned drilling in the Falklands, where UK companies are planning to look for oil and gas in nearby offshore areas."

I was under the impression that the Falklands like Gibraltar wanted to remain British protectorates?
some article i read earlier on the story said that, though i don't know where they sourced that claim, but either way i haven't seen anything claiming the people wanting freedom and chafing under british repression.

Britain's prime minister David Cameron hit back at Argentina today over its plans to protest to the United Nations against British "militarisation" of the Falklands, saying islanders would have London's backing for as long as they wished to remain British.
Argentina's president Cristina Fernandez accused Britain on Tuesday of "militarising the South Atlantic" and said she would complain to the United Nations, as tension rises before the 30th anniversary of the Falklands war this year."
"Argentina will find when she goes to the United Nations that it is an absolutely key part of the United Nations charter to support self-determination," Mr Cameron told a news conference after talks with Nordic and Baltic leaders in Stockholm.
"The people of the Falkland Islands want to maintain ... their connection to the United Kingdom."
As long as the people in the Falkland Islands want to maintain that status, we will make sure that they do and we will defend the Falkland Islands properly to make sure that is the case," he said in his first comments on Ms Fernandez's pledge.
Britain went to war with Argentina over the Falkland Islands, called Las Malvinas in Argentina, in 1982. London has refused to start talks on sovereignty with Argentina unless the roughly 3,000 islanders want them.A war of words between the two governments has escalated in recent months.
Oil exploration by British companies off the islands has raised the stakes. Ms Fernandez condemned British plans to deploy one of its most advanced destroyers, HMS Dauntless, to the area. She also criticised the posting of Prince William, second in line to the British throne, to the islands as a military search-and-rescue pilot.
Argentine foreign minister Hector Timerman will present the country's complaint to the UN Security Council's president tomorrow, a ministry statement said. Britain has denied militarizing the South Atlantic and says its "defensive posture" in the islands remains unchanged.

Living in a barn doesn't make you a horse. The people there are basically itinerants on Argentinian soil and should be removed. Coming as I do, from the POV that if you want to be British, Britain is over there, and looks like this
Funnily enough, The Scots are about to devolve completely from the UK sometime this year following the results of a referendum. edit-the fuss now being the terms United Kingdom and Great Britain, will then be obsolete. And the English upper middle classes dont like it one bit.

Not really. There is some oil there, but far from being high quality and very profitable.
And Venezuela is pretty much on the other side of South America, just some Chavez bravado.
