I'm no expert but I assumed the main reason Scotland wants independence and devolution from the UK is so that it'll then own all the north sea oilfields as a lot of it will then be their territory and the oil companies will then have to pay them but who knows?

But seriously, you really think the UK will let that independence happen?

They have to and they are. there's a referendum on it this year. Scots are a fiercely nationalistic people. it'll pass and they'll go solo i'm betting.

Pfft...
The Falklands have been British way before Argentina even existed as a nation. They've never had a presence there. They've got nothing to back up their claims. OK, so the islands are vaguely close to their coast, but so what? France is even closer to our coast, doesn't make it part of the UK now does it?
As for the impending devolution of Scotland, personally I'm all for it. If the Scots want to govern themselves then go for it. But I wish them luck when they realise that independence means joining the Euro...

I'd like to point out that a big chunk of the Argentine youth is well aware of just how ridiculous the claims are. A few weeks ago some 18 year old girl in Buenos Aires posted a picture of herself burning a t-shirt with the British flag on it. This response went viral pretty quickly.
translation:
"If your parents had taught you right from wrong, you'd know that it's right to be tolerant and it's wrong to be a hypocritical opportunist. Burning a British flag is not the same as respecting your country.
If you're against the Falklands war and yet you do this, you're obviously not the brightest person.
If you were half as smart as you think you are, you'd know that the Falklands debacle symbolizes the ignorance, idiocy and false patriotic pride of a dark time in Argentina's history. It symbolizes the vote machine. It symbolizes cheap singalongs and grievances upon grievances. It symbolizes the hypocrisy of a nation that merely stared at its feet while another feasted on its head.
Congratulations, Argentina. This is how our country earns the respect of its peers.
Dedicated to this dumbass and the douches who cheered her on. I hope to see you at the Obelisk the day our soccer team once again returns from the World Cup in defeat. Let's see how patriotic you feel then."

According to various Scottish friends (Tony, Beth, Keith, Ryan), Scotland will rely on the North Sea gas and oil to pay its way, yeah, you're right mate.

The Falklands, the Channel Islands, Gibraltar and the Isle of Man are all independent in everything but name. Let's just be done with it and give them official independence. That'll shut the whingers up.
