The new regulations, first proposed August 31 by Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, would also revoke the government’s approval of safety training and certification taught by independent groups like 4-H and FFA, replacing them instead with a 90-hour federal government training course.
"Children employed in agriculture are some of the most vulnerable workers in America," said Solis. "Ensuring their welfare is a priority of the department, and this proposal is another element of our comprehensive approach."

My dad kept a garden growing up; about an acre and a half of beans, corn, tomatoes, okra, etc. Of course he had me out there "helping" him in the spring & summer. I hated every single minute of that crap.

You'll never really put a stop to it. Most of the family farms in the upper plains states only manage to get by through family effort. It isn't uncommon, once the kids move out, to sell the farm and move to town.

How utterly stupid. Every kid should work on a farm to know what real work is like.
One of the best things that ever happened to me was picking apples on a farm. It was the foundation for my work ethic, taught me about money, managing money, and so many other things.
We might as well just ban kids from working period.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with working on a family farm, or working on a farm at all.

Here's one of these idiotic Republican senators spouting the usual right wing paranoia about "If the Federal Government can do this what really is off limits?" Of course he's appearing on Hitler's favorite station, FNC (who else would have him?).
People, I suggest emailing this d-bag and setting him straight:
It is the federal government's DUTY to protect our children!
