I actually wouldn't mind if this thread disappeared or kept going. It isn't a great thread, but it isn't bad either. I don't think it's that funny, but it is more or less a thread I enjoy watching.
Isn't this overt sensitivity due mostly to the fact that we have more ability to broadcast opinions than we did in the past?
The cynic in me thinks it's due to the fact that we are beginning to be able to discern individuals differences and limitations in a more scientific way than we used to be able to and society has a need to keep people together acting for a common goal. Combining this with an economic focus on specialized skills means that some people will begin to realize that, no matter how hard they try, they will never achieve greatness because there are more fit competitors out there. PC speech allows us to hide this reality, and preserve some of the social stability that the 'anyone can be an astronaut' lie provides.
