Something has been bothering me lately about the trend towards enabling sensitivity. The latest example is there being outrage from people about Game of Thrones using a prop head of George Bush in beheading scenes and the head on a pike and HBO issuing an apology for something that I don't feel required an apology because they didn't do anything wrong.
In my opinion, too many people get offended or feel slighted for no real reason other than flawed logic in their heads. Should there be a line drawn where we can say "yes, this is a real concern and should be dealt with" or "No, this is not offensive, you just misunderstand"?

Just too many people looking for something to get angry about and there's usually someone in the media leading the charge and egging it on. Makes for good ratings.

So long as individuals are not being targeted ("Joe Smith's kids should be raped and murdered") or being intentionally endangered (yelling 'fire' in a theater), I don't think speech should be limited or criminalized. What is 'offensive' varies by individual and thus cannot be regulated in the sense that a poisonous chemical or a dangerous weapon could, and once you've started then the whole thing is subjected to political whims, such as the complaints about Bush in GoT or Sean Penn saying anyone who criticizes Hugo Chavez should be in jail. Let ignorant speech be seen for what it is.

I'm by no means a fan of GWB, and didn't find it offensive per se but incredibly disrespectful. There's so much double talk about respecting the office of the presidency (which I do belive in), so when we see something like this I do think it's in bad taste. I read what the producers had to say and fully understand the need for props, I guess I feel that they didn't need to reveal that in the commentary. What were they expecting?
I also find the lack of decorum by that idiot at the Rose Garden press conference yesterday entirely disrespectful. No different than when that fucktard yelled "YOU LIE" at Obama when he was addressing Congress. I'm sure civility and mutual respect will continue to decline until we finally end up with President Camacho.

They stuck Bush's head on a pike. Big deal. You have to respect the office but not the man and especially after he's gone. Pointless and childish of them but fuckit. He's fair game in my eyes.

I don't think it was done as "fair game" at all. Just feels like a funny tidbit that I laughed about and I'm a registered republican, which I'm sure those offended are as well.

Game of Throne producers were idiots for coming out and telling people what hey never noticed. Just a cheap publicity stunt. I think the whole pc thing has gone way too far. If that were Obama's head on the pike, there'd be those denouncing it as racist. In either case I think it's just a stupid sophomoric prank, that got even stupider when the producers came out and told people what they did.
