Thanks for the 411. Although 35,000 people really isnt all that many people. But considering what the intent of the hackers likely is, it's not very cool.

Definately not cool.

I recently got an advertisement in the mail addressed to "almost" my name, and it was close enough and wrong enough to make me contact the credit reporting folks and put an alert on myself - just in case.

You can do that for 90 days at a time if you suspect any issue or any potential issue - which is pretty cool as long as it doesn't interfere with legitimate activities.

I know people who literally do this every 3 months, so they always have that "protection" watching their credit history. This family had both two identities stolen in a matter of months, spent over 100 hours on the phone clearing it up. They're never letting that happen again, if they can help it...

My sister-in-law has to do this, there is someone with whom she shares both the same maiden name and the same birth date, who apparently has tons of credit issues, and they keep "linking" her information to that persons, so she has to constantly monitor her information to make sure it doesn't happen. Total pain in the butt.
