It baffles me why anyone would do anything to arouse the wrath of the fatties.

Here's the deal; we are eating so much that it's killing us, and that's not a good thing.
"In the United States roughly 39.8 million, or 1 in 6, die from health risks related to being overweight every year." -Wiki Answers.
That's bad, dude.
"More than one-third of U.S. adults (35.7%) are obese." -Centers For Disease Control and Prevention.
That's really bad, dude.
Not only are these people dying young, but they're dying without a full life experience. It's hard for fat people to get around. Hell, it's hard for fat people to even get out of bed sometimes.
I'm 6"2, about 180, thin framed but flabby. My eating habits are terrible, and I really like beer. And I'm unemployed, so I'm not getting much exercise. And I hate it. I hate the fact that I'm not disciplined enough to take care of myself physically. But, unless you count drinking Coors Light instead of Budweiser, I'm not doing anything about it.
My poor eating habits were inherited by my parents, who were both really young, and working their way through school during my childhood. So it was a lot of McDonalds, Pizza Rolls, Hot Pockets, etc. And I think there in lies a big problem nowadays. People my age (early 20's) are learning how to eat like complete shit from their parents. And they continue to eat like shit, and they will one day pass that shit onto their own kids.
I'm not the kind of guy who judges people by appearance (other than females, for sexual purposes only). I'm just not very judgmental at all. If you want to be 500 pounds and eat KFC 3 times a day, fuck man, go hard.
But on a national level, I think we have a lot of changes to make. My High School, and Community College menus were awful. Corndogs, pizza pockets, burgers.
It's time for us to properly educate, SPECIFICALLY children, on how to better take care of themselves. I don't want us to be fat and lazy. I want us to productive, full of energy, and therefor, more happy.

Not that you need or are seeking my approval, but I'm glad for that. Truly.
But wouldn't you agree that getting exercise and eating healthy is beneficial to a persons well being? Therefore providing a cleaner opportunity for prosperity and happiness?

Not necessarily.

I think there's more nutritional information out there than ever before, anyone can find tips on healthy food on the internet within moments. If people know that and still eat what they want to eat, who else's business is it? It's presumptuous to think that overweight people just don't know any better.

To the extent the costs associated with poor health habits are socialized, a case can be made that it's the taxpayers' business (particularly when those unhealthy habits are a function of choice).
