So New York was in the news because of the weather. Some people are making the point that New York wasn't the only place affected and yet it gets all the attention.

So, which is the most important city on the planet? Which would be the capital city of a united Earth? Where would be the most appropriate place for a visiting alien to deploy their devious landmark destroying death ray?

I'm inclined to say New York would be in the running but maybe Shanghai will eclipse it. Tokyo seems to have lost its importance since their economic crash.

Where would you pick? There's no defining metric to choose by. No idea what cities to include if this were a poll.

Well, NY City is the cultural center of the world's "melting pot."

Can Gotham City be an option? Because I feel like Gotham City should be an option. That would cover New York, Chicago, uh....other...American....ah, places...that....sometimes....

Gotham City.

Londons been doing that for far longer. If it's as sucessful as a melting pot is questionable though.

McParadigm, no fantasy cities allowed. Else I would have gone for the stereotype and picked the Emerald City.

Objection. New York has appeared in film as a fictional city more times than Gotham City has. I think.

Start a best fictional city thread. It'd probably have legs rather quickly.

What's Mayberry? Is that where leave it to beaver was set?

Seattle could be a contender. Culture, IT and the whole Boeing thing. (are they still up there?)

Mayberry is where Andy Griffith lived. And Opie, Aunt B, Barney Fife, etc.

My nomination for the most important city on earth (non-fiction) would be Tel Aviv.

We could make it video game world/landscape you'd most like to live in Chud.

I'd pick Hyrule. Only if I could have all Links weapons and gear though.

Wouldn't live in Marioland. Too many ladders and those kinds of mushrooms never agreed with me. Yoshi would be a cool get around though.
