I'm pretty sure Topeka, KS was renamed New York, NY

Why'd they change it? I can't say, people just liked it better that way.

Nah that's you guys.
Turns out Peking was renamed Beijing. It was a question on a game show the other night. That's what I get for not payin attention.

Beijing could be a contender though. In 5-10 years

Most important is probably Jerusalem or Tehran because changes there over the next few years will shape politics all over the world. As for a capital, I'd go with London. It's the most acceptable choice for the global (accept for Argentina).

New York is overrated. DC or San Fran are the best large cities in the US right now.

Federal spending and government bloat prevents DC from experiencing the same economic slowdowns the rest of the US faces, combine that with a influx of many of the most educated college graduates and you get a city that is still gentrifying years after that stopped in most east coast areas. DC doesn't suffer from the post-industrial meltdown of the working class like the Baltimore through Boston stretch (with Manhattan being the exception). Now it doesn't have well defined historic 'ethnic' neighborhoods other than a three block Chinatown, and that's mostly restaurants that support the Verizon center basketball arena, so it's missing some of the charm of places like Chicago or Boston, but I would equate it's change to what happened to East Berlin after the fall of the wall.
