Just curious, what's your actual realism level on this happening? Because I will be SHOCKED if they give him 4 years, 5 with the option. I can see them doing a 2 year/$20M-or-so, if he'll be willing for that, but I'd be surprised at anything greater.

If the Cubs don't find a way to make Brian Roberts their leadoff guy this off-season, they will continue to suffer the same playoff fate.

Also, I think the Toronto Blue Jays will be the darkhorse in the Manny sweepstakes.

With respect to Jake Peavy, his home/road splits, plus his injury last year, would scare the crap out of me if I were any GM other than the Dodgers' (he could survive in Dodger Stadium). But the question is, are the Dodgers willing to give up Billingsly for JP?

CC has said all this time he wants to stay in the NL and be on the west coast, but will the yankee $$ be too great to pass up?

Doug Mientkiewicz comes back to the Yanks.

If the Cubs don't find a way to make Brian Roberts their leadoff guy this off-season, they will continue to suffer the same playoff fate.

Apparently, the Brewers are willing to offer CC 4yr/100 million. Probably not enough...

michael, how do you see the Manny situation playing out?

I dont see anyone but the Dodgers and Mets as clear choices. I would think the Yanks want nothing to do with Manny, the phillies have been mentioned but they just won a title without him, and the blue jays probably cant get it done. i just hope its settled before or during the winter meetings

The offseason is my favorite time of the baseball year. What trades and free-agent signings will this offseason bring us? It's already started off better than last year's, since A-Rod and Scott Boras haven't walked all over the World Series. Who will be this year's Hot Stove champs? Last year, it looked like it was the Tigers, but we all know how that turned out. My hopes? The Yankees do not make more than one huge free-agent signing. CC gets the long-term, big money deal he deserves. Doug Mientkiewicz comes back to the Yanks. Manny Ramirez doesn't make a fool of himself. Carl Pavano doesn't get a job. A lot of closers switch teams, but none are overpaid. Whichever team signs Jason Giambi (not the Yanks) includes some sort of anti-grease stipulation in his contract. Randy Johnson retires. Anyone else excited?

I was excited about the Jays or next year because their pitching is so good, but now Burnett has the opt-out clause, Marcum is done for the entire season and McGowan will HOPEFULLY be back sometime in May. Ouch. They kinda have to do something about that. Aw what the hell, I'm still excited. I doubt they'll do anything huge... they've got a nice ore of talented young players who are starting to have an impact, so they're headed in the right direction.

Trade for Jake Peavy. SD will ask LA for way more than anyone else, but as long as Andrew LAmbo isnt part of it, do it 4. resign Joe Beimel as the lefty specialist 5. please god, find a closer not named Broxton 6. this may be pushing it, but sign Orlando Hudson for 2B, move DeWitt to 3B 7. find a backup catcher who can actually play the game done

I think the only real competition as far as number of years is the Mets. Minaya's wet dream is has always been manny as a met, and he might give him 4-5 years

The Orioles want to extend Roberts but don't know if they can, considering Roberts wants a deal done before spring training. Both teams in Chicago will be inquiring but don't think they have the pieces to get a deal done.

Im not for Vazquez getting traded, but if we could get Garland back i'll be for it. Dye and Vazquez are on the trading block. But everything will not start moving until Texeira decides where he's going to sign.

The Dodgers have offered Ramirez a two-year deal worth $60 million to remain in Los Angeles, but he is expected to file for free agency and look for a four-year deal in the $80 million range. -- i can't see the yanks at this point giving a destined-for-DH 36-year-old four years, $80 million, but who knows, they've done it before. surely, he and a-rod would be an astounding combination. plus, maybe they feel the attention manny draws would make a-rod more relaxed as the media would turn from him. they really need some pitching, but i don't see CC coming to new york, so they may have money to burn because the market is pretty dry. but they've got a list of other problems: is posada the new first baseman? what if that doesn't pan out? do we have multiple DHs? who's playing center? and again, who's pitching? the dodgers are going to have to up that deal if they want manny. i haven't heard anything from the mets, really, but with pedro coming off the payroll soon, and their collapses two years in a row, maybe this is just what they need to do. manny surely only has a few options. i wonder if the mark tex situation will influence this at all. getting tex would surely mean that team is out of the manny sweepstakes.

the dodgers have publically stated that they have not offered any deal to manny yet and the only communication with him has been 2 voicemails to Boras to schedule a meeting. that 2 yr/60mill being reported everywhere is false you never know with these guys. on the one hand, when Manny got to LA he said he hated playing in Boston where every game was do or die and the fans were insane, and he enjoyed the easy going LA atmosphere. NY would be more of the same insanity on the other he's let it be known that hed love to be able to play the red sox 18 times a year as a yankee (earlier in the year I think, i dont think he said this when he got to LA)
