Yes Quade gone...the surprising thing is Ryno is not even being considered. I am dissapointed about that...I hope Theo knows what he is doing.
Just curious, but what about Ryne Sandberg do you think makes him qualified to manage the Cubs?
The fact that the Cardinals are interested? That he's taking almost every team to the playoffs? That he'll win minor league manager of the year?
But Epstein wants one of his guys and thats fine.
Managerial experience in the minor leagues is important, to be sure. But the fact that he only has 4 years of minor-league managerial experience leads me to believe that there are several, several more eminently qualified candidates than Ryne Sandberg.
Let's be honest, if you take away Sandberg's name or the fact that he's a HOFer that played for the Cubs, his name probably doesn't even come up.

The Cardinals know something what a winning manager looks like and they're interested. That means something.
Actually his HOF credentials makes him an even better candidate. He relied on hard work and fundamentals more than talent, which is something the Cubs could use.
There may be others qualified, doesn't mean he isn't. It's not just the exp of the minors, but also that he has excelled quite well there. You're getting into the catch-22 of pro-experience. How can he get it, if he's not ready, because he doesn't have it?
I'm not saying he's the best, but he should be considered. But Epstein wants one of his guys, so it's moot.

The cynical side of me thinks that the Cardinals are only interviewing Sandberg to completely fuck with Cubs fans.

Hiring a hall of fame player tied to your team to be your manager is a very bad idea in this day and age. Especially if your team is not very good. It becomes a short term PR boon, followed by a lot of looking very unappreciative when you have to fire him a couple years later if the team doesn't turn it around.
