what's up with their drug dealing tackle? Is the league going to suspend him?

Tank Williams is done for the year. Also, Ellis Hobs as your best corner does not thrill me. If the line can't constantly get pressure, the pass stats are going to be ugly.

Bill Belichick is usually good for a few surprises when it comes to trimming down the roster at the end of camp but I don't think there's anything on this list that people didn't see coming aside from keeping Matt Cassel over Gutierrez:

Defensive back Fernando Bryant and quarterback Matt Gutierrez were among the 18 players released by the New England Patriots Saturday. Bryant’s release, along with that of DB Jason Webster on Aug. 26 removes two veteran players with starting experience brought in this offseason to help replace Asante Samuel.
Gutierrez was battling Matt Cassel to become the Patriots’ backup QB behind Tom Brady.
In addition to Bryant and Gutierrez , the Patriots released the following players:
Defensive linemen Titus Adams and Santonio Thomas, cornerback Mike Richardson, tight end Tyson DeVree, safety Mark Dillard, center Mike Flynnn, running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis, linebackers Victor Hobson and Vince Redd, tackle Stephen Sene, defensive back Antwain Spann and guard John Welbourn.
Additionally, the Patriots placed LB Bo Ruud and DL Kenny Smith on the seserve/injured list and T Oliver Ross on the reserve/non-football injury list.

In other news, I'm glad that the Chad Jackson experiment finally came to an end
I agree with you on both accounts though I think they may hold off on Lynch until they need him. Which I suppose could be after week 1. The conversation with Lynch probably went something like "You're not ready now and we need the spot. Stay in shape and expect a call down the road".
Also, someone's going to be cut after week 1 when Faulk comes back. From what I gather, they can give his spot to someone else until the Monday after the first game.

According to Mike Reiss' blog:
"The "thus far" part of Lynch's comment seems to indicate this could be a situation where Lynch is not kept on the Patriots' roster for the opening week -- when salaries for veterans would be guaranteed -- before returning to the club after the first game."

Fair enough. I actually checked the roster after I read your post and made my post and couldn't find a spot where I thought they needed to keep a guy instead of Lynch. That actually makes a ton of sense. There are at least 3 other spots I can see being taken by other players. One is obviously Faulk's spot. I also figure Stephen Neal will get a spot when he comes off the PUP list and I'm fairly certain Junior Seau will be on the field at some point this year.
ty law rumors. not sure i want that guy back though, we shouldn't take back people who felt the grass was greener elsewhere. they should face the consequences of their actions and continue to suffer until retirement.

some thoughts on the depth chart:
levoir is holding stephen neal's spot
ventrone is holding faulk's spot
mayo, wheatley and wilhite (in the nickle) starting is interesting.
slater is slotted as the #2 free safety.
i hope c.j. jones sticks, i thought he deserved a spot last season.
how much p.t. do you think deltha o'neal will get? where is he listed?
the secondary is the only potential sore spot on defense. any word on how long meriweather will be out?
i found it interesting that no team picked up chad jackson on waivers. he's got a tryout with oakland. his pedigree, skill set, and draft position should have been enough for some team to at least put in a claim. how the mighty have fallen.

For what it's worth (and it might not be worth that much) Brady looking like a "vintage" Tom Brady during warm-ups today, according to Dierdorf on cbs...we shall see. go pats
