I'm saying current players as if you're starting a franchise.

Ah, gotcha.
That would be quite the tough call. Do you play it safe and draft someone like Brady or Peyton Manning who might only give you five more years, or do you a take a chance on a young gun like Matt Ryan?

at least when done on Madden you have the opportunity to find out how well you planned things.

I like that this board has a lot of NFL fans instead of just fans of one particular team. People seem to know their stuff and take interest in games/players that pure homers usually wouldn't. Makes for a lot of good discussion.

were this reality, this would be the lowest a TE was picked since 1994 when the Bills picked Lonnie Johnson at #61.
the most recent years w/o a TE in the 1st round: 1999 Reggie Kelly was picked #42 by the falcons 1998 Cam Cleeland was picked #40 by the saints
and b/c no TE discussion (nor draft gaff discussion) is complete w/o mocking the jets: in 1995 Kyle Brady went 9th overall to the jets
I'm surprised Rudolph lasted this long. He's who I wanted for the Broncos at #36, and was sweating it out a bit, as I knew Nick would have reservations in picking an ND guy.
Oh, and your post is also incomplete: it needs more "We Want Sapp!" in it.

It had less to do with school allegiances and more to do with need. Sure we could use a good TE with Graham leaving but we DESPERATELY need defense beyond all else and obviously landing both is a huge win in my books.
