enough of what? no sport has an off-season in this day and age

True, but no sport comes even close to baseball when it comes to off-season bullshit. It's beyond annoying and this is probably the 5th straight year i've bitched about it on RM.

well there's a streak for ya!

would the indians have any interest in trading victor martinez? shoppach is cheap as can be and the bidding between the tigers, red sox & mets would surely bring them something worthwhile.

They'll trade Shoppach instead.

Martinez will hold down catcher until Santana is ready.

the talk in the tribe's MLB.com mailbag was how they're looking to shed money b/c they don't want the payroll going much higher than it was this past season and VM has the $9 million option after next season.

Peavy has cleared towers to trade him to:

Atlanta
St. Louis
Los Angeles
Houston
Chicago (NL)
New York (AL)
Los Angeles of Anahiem

So the sox can't have 2 Dice-K's in the rotation...

Atlanta doesn't want to give up their top pitching prospects... so how 'bout:

Boston gets: Mccann
Atlanta gets: Coco & Peavy
SD gets: Buchholz from the sox and posistion-player prospects from Atl

this is easy!!

Numbers and stats aren't the only data points to consider when analyzing offseason moves. If you like stats, go hang out with the BCS computer.

did i write anything close to something resembling a post arguing that stats are the only thing an organization should use when making offseason move? either way, stats are wholly important. you can't take them out of the picture whatsoever.

by the way, if you hate stats and critical analysis of players and the game, go hang out with the guys who think jeter's the best defensive shortshop in the game. you belong in the same boat.

never tried to take stats out of the picture, but stats seem to be your only measuring stick when it comes to evaluating baseball. based on stats, one would never have projected the rays to reach the ws this year, but hey, look what happened. that's why they play the games...otherwise you could just plug every essential stat into a ps3 and watch a simulated season

All around Cleveland boards the consensus is that Shoppach is the one to go. He makes less money and is likely to bring more back in a deal. Martinez is the leader of this team, has flexibility to play first, and he handles the pitchers better than Kelly does.

There's payroll for 09 and beyond. If they're looking to shed payroll it's obvious who needs to go...

As expected, Yankees declined next year's options on Giambi and Pavano. I'm quite glad.

Apparently Kenny Williams wouldn't mind trading Jermaine Dye and Javier Vazquez. Who wants em?

Hafner. There are a number of guys who could easily play DH and the length of his contract is killer.

The Jays look like they're in big trouble. They had the best rotation in baseball last year, and now they start the season with only 2 returning healthy. Hopefully they take the $10 million and throw a little extra in to make a play for one or two big name FAs.

When can free agents be signed? Can it start any time, or is there a start date?

Nov. 14th is the openning of free agency
