are no different from what CNN does with Sarah Palin or whatever else. It's not gritty journalism, but I'm just not sure why ESPN should be held to a higher standard than news channels.

I don't see how they are. That "punchline" is the exact kind of thing Jon Stewart would say about CNN on The Daily Show.

Not to mention, CNN reports news, rarely are the driving force behind the story. So much of what goes on in sports (ncaa specifically) is actively influenced by ESPN.

:?: Political movements get huge boosts from coverage on CNN et al. Maybe ESPN is more important in sports, but the mainstream media is far more than an independent, if sensationalistic, observer/reporter.

I guess I just took it in the context of what had been said up to that point re: Longhorn network, etc. Corruption of ethics for monetary gain, or something along those lines, when I don't see that corruption going on in the case of Tebow.

I know nothing about football or Tebow, but I didn't read that line as an example of corruption. I thought it was just a comment on ESPN creating the news rather than simply commenting on it.

Getting huge boosts from exposure and paying the salaries (indirectly) of those that you cover are entirely different things.

Haha.

We're going to go ahead and believe that the shot above is of a part of the greater Jacksonville, Florida, area — after all, the stadium shown does look a lot like EverBank Field, where the Jacksonville Jaguars play. However, this picture may not be truly representative of the current city. According to ESPN's Paul Kuharsky, observant viewers threw multiple flags against the "Worldwide Leader" after it became evident that some of the overhead shots on the "Monday Night Football" game between the Jaguars and San Diego Chargers were outdated representations of Jacksonville.

That's not the best part. According to Kuharsky, one of the aerial shots was actually of Charlotte, North Carolina. Whoops! Kuharshy reached out to an ESPN spokesperson, who had this to say:

"The Charlotte aerial was an inadvertent mistake. It should not have aired. We apologize that it was part of the telecast.

"The scenics of Jacksonville that were used during 'Monday Night Countdown' were shot the night of the previous MNF game there in late October. We did not have a crew shooting scenics Monday. There were no graphic or audio mentions indicating the shot was live, though we understand viewers may have been under this assumption."

Well, sure. Generally speaking, when you see an overhead shot of an area, you expect that you're seeing it live. We're under the impression that you shouldn't have to expect a disclaimer that you're not seeing something from a Goodyear Blimp in 1979, but maybe that's just us.

Or, given the team's new ownership and longstanding rumors of a franchise move to L.A. or elsewhere, maybe ESPN was just trying out aerials of different cities. That would have been a more creative excuse.

ESPN's next Monday night game features the St. Louis Rams and Seattle Seahawks from Seattle's CenturyLink Field. As a Seattle resident, and someone who will be watching the game from the press box, I'll do my best to relay any scenic discrepancies.

You're on notice, ESPN — if you try to show overhead shots of Portland, or of Seattle during the WTO riots at the height of the Grunge Movement, we'll be on to you.

Wait, the WTO protests were in 1999, hardly the height of the grunge movement.

Well, being that Kurt Cobain played such a big role there I can understand his confusion.

Since the Ducks and Blues are both hockey teams, I don't believe you.

Well at least Linda Cohn and Cindy Brunson are still hot as fuck. Sports chicks are so damn sexy. That ass Chris Berman can fart his way away, and The Coach (Jon Coachman is good). I dont kno I hate that sports nation show AWFUL. pti is ok. and that Tony Realli show is fun usually as long as that Macmillan woman doesnt speak. That Woody clown can be annoying too. But i love thier baseball coveraege and presentation.

I get that hockey is far from a priority for ESPN, but apparently they didn't mention any hockey players in their "players we lost" (or whatever it's called) of their Year in Review. That's pretty low, considering there were three current/recent players who died this year along with one of the most tragic losses in sports history.

With the lockout over, ESPN predictably returns to its roots, by emphasizing the NBA (or should I say the Miami Heat) over all other sports.

I am loving this Numbers Never Lie show. It's NFL talking heads debating the guy from Football Outsiders and he just shits all over their dumb platitudes. "The Giants really run the ball well!" "Actually, the Patriots were much more efficient" "The Giants turnaround must have started with their game against the Jets! They both play in NY!" "Actually, it started when they beat their division rival the next week." Great stuff.

I'm also really starting to like that Michael Smith guy. Actually seems to have logic behind most of his opinions.
