something needs to be done about this process- after the second time around that they do not vote a single member into the hall. either that, or there is a good number of them that are just assholes.
Ron Santo deserves to be in, and should have been YEARS ago.

The problem is people like Mike Schmidt who admit that they will never vote for a player because they feel if they weren't good enough the first time around they aren't good enough for the Veteran's Committee. My question is: why the hell is there even a Veteran's Committee to begin with? It's absolutely absurd. Members of the Hall are very protective about their territory and don't want to see the rolls expand much beyond it's current numbers.

ok, so maybe i am as a diehard cubs fan - but it doens't take a rocket scientist to realize the process if a fucked up one. so you agree that ron santo, gil hodges, roger maris, tony oliva, (any others) shouldn't be in the hall of fame??

Besides Schmidt, name another 3rd baseman in the past 40 years with better numbers hitting and fielding that is eligible for the Hall that hasn't gotten in . . .

what are you trying to accomplish by comparing him to Schmidt? There are a ton of OF's in the HOF who's numbers don't match up to Ruth's or Aaron's, should all of them be excluded?
regarding Santo, for that era, his power numbers were pretty good.
Also, he was a 4-time gold glover, and 7 times he finished in the top 10 in OBP (finishing 1st or second in walks 5 straight years).

Of course not, but that's NOT the issue.
We're discussing his qualifications for the HOF. Whether or not he's on the same level as Scmidt or A-Rod is irrelevant due to the fact that there plenty of guys in the HOF not as good as the best player elected.

Ron Santo is the best player not to be in the HOF,. It really is a disgrace that he is not in the hall. The cubs took the first step by retiring his number a couple of years ago. I remember i was in tears during that whole ceremony. I love Ronnie

You keep comparing him to some of the greatest players ever. Nobody is saying he is one of the all-time greats. Is he deserving of the HOF is the question, and i think that he most definetly is.

He actually received 5 gold gloves. And 1331 RBI's is nothing to shake a stick at. He was in the top 10 for MVP 4 times, top 10 OPS 5 times, 1st in BB's 4 times. He passes the "gray ink test" for HOF'ers.
Schmidt was great, there's no denying that. But that doesn't mean that others weren't ALSO great, ESPECIALLY Ron Santo.
Yes I am a Cubs fan, but I know I would feel this way even if I wasn't.
