Not rmoz fb, mind you, the Yahoo Public League that I'm in.
Consider this situation: You have Adrian Beltre at 3B, Chipper Jones (eligible for 3B) in the outfield, David Wright in the Util hole, and then you have Matt Lawton and Craig Biggio as bench outfielders. Your 2B is Juan Uribe (who can also play 3B and SS, the latter of which is occupied by Miguel Tejada, and you do not have anyone on the bench that can play SS) and you have no other players eligible to play 2B. The best 2B free agents available are Placido Polanco, D'Angelo Jimenez, and about a dozen other 12 HR 60 RBI .280 AVG guys. You are offered Jose Vidro for David Wright straight up. Why don't you do this trade, or even make a counter-offer?
The only thing I hate about Fantasy Baseball are that people are freaking retarded when it comes to trades.

Yeah but why wait for the stats to start counting when you know you have no depth now? I know I got screwed on the auto-draft (and tweaked it for my two other leagues, rmoz included, in case I can't be there) and so did he, 2B is a hard position to fill. Were the roles reversed, I would totally do it. A top flight 2B (which is probably the hardest category to get a good fantasy performer) for my #3 3B, a guy that MIGHT be really good this year? Where do I sign up?
Unfortunately, I ended up with Loretta (good), Vidro (good), Todd Walker (there are questions as to if he'll be platooning again) and Bellhorn on 3B.

yeah, autodrafts suck. for his players that you mentioned though, i'd rather have wright (util) & uribe (2b) than lawton/biggio/? and vidro as my util/2b.
if you could get wright for vidro, that would be a steal. wright is going to have a great year and is well on his way to being a top 3b, where as vidro is on his way down playing on a terrible team.

in all honesty his/her picthing isnt that bad really. Even if arroyo doesnt start he wil get quality innings. Garcia and Burhle is risky sicne they play for the same team and if the teams goes to injury or slumpsville hes screwed. Pettite may rebound and Lieber is hit or miss....i think he wants to keep crawford for steals an dnothing else imo. Granted id tak ethe trade in millisecond, i think thsi would be th eonly explanation....or its carl crawfords brother.

Well, he already has 2 base-stealing OF's (Corey Patterson and R. Freel) and also has Carlos Guillen at SS, plus my offer was to give him Jacque Jones, so it wasn't like he was losing 50 SB's.
As far as his pitching, maybe he agrees with you, but I think there's way too much risk on his roster. If Arroyo was going to be a bonafide starter, he'd be great. Pettite could come back strong. After that? I think Vasquez is FAR overrated, Freddy Garcia isn't that hot, and Buehrle will come back down to earth, especially being on the White Sox. He just traded his only closer in Looper (well, he has Worrell too, but Wagner is healthy so that ends that). I think he's in very bad shape considering this is a rotisserie league that has an even split of pitching and offense stats (standard Yahoo public setup).

Sucks that you had to draft this early. There is still plenty of time for guys to get hurt / weird crap to happen. We try and wait until a day or two before opening day.
As for trades, I find that many fantasy managers all too often 2nd guess themselves and their lineups. Some guys know a lot more than others about stats, etc (although I find that doesn't always make for a winner), and other managers figure someone is trying to pull a fast one on them when a trade is offered. I've heard people say "No way I'm trading with that dude - he's totally trying to hose me" even if the trade is clearly more beneficial to the manager rejecting the offer.
People are just cautious and sometimes weird. That's all.
My only comment on the first is that Vidro is not a top flight second baseman. Trading Wright for him would be nuts.
As for Hudson/Jones for Crawford...
Jones isn't worth much at all. Here is his PECOTA projection:
26 doubles, 2 triples, 17 homers, .273 BA, .325 OBP, with a 456 SLG. and 8 stolen bases.
Now, for Crawford:
26 doubles, 7 triples, 10 homers with a .282 BA, .319 OBP and a .410 SLG. with 41 steals.
So, they're comparable in everything except steals. But, I think PECOTA is giving Crawford lower numbers due to his youth, especially in stolen bases, as he didn't steal as much in the minors. He'll likely have 45-50 more steals than Jones, about the same amount of homers with an equal amount of everything else except steals. He has the potential to do a lot more than Jones, a much larger upside.
Hudson will be very good if he's healthy, there's little doubt in my mind about it. But, the trade is a wash if the guys pitching turns out to be ok, which it probably won't, so he should have taken it, but then again maybe the rest of his roster sucks offensively and he didn't want to lose anything.

Apparently, the dude listened to me in that he needed a SP more than he needed a prospect 3B, because I just accepted Mark Loretta and Tim Hudson for David Wright and Francisco Cordero. I actually needed another closer too, so it worked out pretty well, though it was tough for me to give up Loretta.

dude, i would not have done that trade
I've already got Todd Walker and Chase Utley for 2B, and my only legitimate closer was B.J. Ryan/Jorge Julio (and Joe Borowski, if that's who wins the spot with the Cubs). My 3B eligible players are Felipe Lopez (Reds Prospect), or Brandon Inge! My starting pitchers are Carlos Zambrano, Oliver Perez, Jaret Wright, and Noah Lowry, so while I am giving up a potential 20 game winner in Tim Hudson, it's not like it makes me weak in the SP area. I really don't think Mark Loretta will have another year like 2004, and if he's more like 2003 then David Wright and Todd Walker/Chase Utley are more valuable to me than Mark Loretta and Felipe Lopez.
More trading fun - some guy just offered me Orlando Cabrera and Jon Lieber for Oliver Perez. What?!?!?

Ok, here's a dilemma guys. This guy wants some pitching off of me, and is willing to give up Gary Sheffield to do it. He wants Carlos Zambrano, but I don't know if I'm willing to do that, especially since thusfar he's been wanting to give me Joe Lieber in return. I'd like to send him Jason Bay for Sheffield, and I want Rich Harden from his pitchers, but then who do I give up?
Carlos Zambrano
Oliver Perez
Jaret Wright
Noah Lowry (probably won't take him without other players)
Francisco Cordero
B.J. Ryan
Juan Rincon
Mike Gonzales
I was thinking Bay + Wright + Rincon for Sheffield and Harden, but I hesitate in giving up Wright because I could see him winning 20 games for the Yankees...
Opinions?
