now... i thought maybe N&D for this... but i pretty much live here at the Sports Forum, so i figured id just post it here

anyway... at the school where i teach, our girls basketball coach (assistant this year, head coach next) is an obvious lesbian.... now, i dont have any problems with gay people, what have you... but do you think it is wrong for her to be in the locker room while her players are changing?.... i know that 80% of the wnba is probably gay, but we're not talking about professional or even collegiate athletes here... these are 13 and 14-year old girls... 90%+ of which are probably heterosexual...

there is a good friend of mine here that's daughter is in the 6th grade... i asked him if she was going to play basketball next year, adn he responds, "im not really sure"... i asked him why, and he says, "well, the girls coach is a lesbian"... i was kind of surprised to hear this from him, especially since i made no mention of it.... thoughts?

We had a teacher in school who everyone thought was gay.

He had a really funny voice and always cocked his head at a funny angle. He always made sure we got showers and was fond of telling us we were all the same underneath. He had a wife and kids. I was disturbed.

If a teacher was gay, however, I think they would be professional and be at pains to avoid anything that could get thim into trouble. If you're trusting someone to educate your kids, I think you should be able to trust them in the locker room. Hell, I'd be more afraid of those netball girls hitting on my daughter.

let's use high school as an example...

ive coached varsity high school girls, and i obviously wasnt allowed in the locker room when they were changing, but a female coach would be allowed to be in there... how do you not "check them out" regardless of whether or not you are actually intending to?... a libido, a mosquito

this woman is obviously gay... rainbow stickers on her Ford Truck, dresses just like a guy, and lives with a woman... again, i dont care if folks want to be gay, but where do you draw a line in regards to your own children?

i guess it depends on how the student feels. if they feel like they are being "checked out" and dont feel comforable about it then they should bring this to the attention of the AD. personally, if a gay dude saw me naked i really wouldnt care. if he was staring and drooling id have a problem.

I'd have no problem if my daughter had a gay coach. My daughter has a gay aunt (actually two since my sister in law is "married" to another chick) so having a gay basketball coach wouldn't be a big deal.

Just because the teacher is gay doesn't mean she will be checking out underage kids. The issue at hand, at least to me, seems to be more about pedophilia than homosexuality. And until there's a reason to suspect her of such, I don't see an issue here.

As long as he coach is munchin box in the locker room I'd have a problem with it, I'd watch a tape of it, but I'd have a problem with it too.

that's alabama for you.

why do people think if you're gay, you're more prone to "come on" to others? i never understood that. a parent should have the same apprehension if were a guy coaching the girls team.

That was the original guys point. You wouldn't trust a guy in the girls locker room so why trust a gay woman.

thanks for clarifying

and how many men here would turn down the opportunity to sit in a girls locker room while all of them change?... not many... so if a girl likes to get on girls, then wouldnt it make sense that they would be getting something out of sitting there watching 17 and 18-year old girls change?

In your first post you said the girls were 13/14. Which is it?

the girls at my school are 13 and 14, but i realize that most people who have any sort of sanity dont find these girls old enough to "look at"....

im sure this (lesbian coaches) happens at the next level too, and i figured that 17 and 18 year olds are a bit more "worth the look", for lack of better words... thus possibly providing more of a problem
