No Clement, Alou, OR Sosa in 2005!

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1907972

Plus, Send 'Em In Kim (or Wave 'Em In Wendall, your choice) is already gone!

Plus they fired the trainer and the assistant, which makes sense considering the Cubs had some of the worst DL trouble I've ever seen from a team.

Maybe they'll pick up Beltran and move Patterson to left, DuBois in right?

Why would no Clement be a good thing? He had a rough year b/c he did not get ANY run support.
for one, i would like to see clement back, although i doubt it. will probably end up w/ the fuckin yankees

sammy and alou - your car is waiting. see ya.

They don't need him. They have Maddux, Wood, Prior, and Zambrano all for next year, with at least two prospects that may be ready (Mitre and Angel Guzman, not to mention Dempster and Rusch already being ready). He seems to choke in big games and tight situations, and that's exactly what the Cubs DON'T need.

i dont recall clement ever "choking". he didnt get any support and was injured most of the second half of the year.
how many years does maddux have left in him? mitre is never going to be an everyday started on this team. guzman is not proven, could still be year + away from being ready.
im not saying the cubs could stand to use their money in other areas (outfield, speed, proven closer, etc) but by no means would i be 'happy' to see clement go.

alou is a top 10 outfielder in the NL, why would they not want him?

a) he is 39 yrs old
b) near the top in errors
c) no speed
d) rumored to be a 'cancer' in the clubhouse. (too busy worrying about the what the announcers are saying instead of winning ball games)
e) there are younger FA available for around the same price

If they signed Beltran, that would be awesome. Anyone but the Yankees. Make this deal happen, Chris.

Like any of this really matters Chris. I see no way the Cubs improve their personnel this offseason. Maybe they'll get lucky like they did in 03, who knows.

Alou did lead the Cubs in HR and RBI last year. He may be 39, but he put up some career numbers last season and is an All-Star outfielder. I think everyone is a little over critical of the team because of the high hopes that they went into the season with. If they can keep the team they have now healthy, they will fare much better next season. Everyone is so disappointed, but when was the last time the Cubs had back to back winning seasons? One thing at a time. We don't want to turn into the Yankees and buy the WS now do we?

When you underachieve, need someone else other than the players to blame and can't fire Steve Stone, fire the trainer and assistant! I love it! Typical 2004 Chicago Cubs.

Like I said in the other thread you started, Clement and Alou were easy calls -- you knew they weren't going to pick up their options. I still think Sosa is next to impossible to get rid of without taking on another huge salary and cancerous player in the clubhouse (see Kevin Brown).

Either Renteria or Cabrera will be at short next year and they will have a solid, out of nowhere lead-off type hitter in the outfield. Beltran to New York is a done deal (although I would love to eat these words once the Cubs sign him).

Angel Guzman will not be ready to start next year (he was still in AA last year after his surgery). They are hoping Dempster will be able to fill that void. If not, they have Glendon Rusch.

You'd be a dreamboy if you weren't a texan. Assuming you are a texan that is.

Sosa will be back unless he gets traded to the Yankees. I have heard Sosa for Kevin Brown.

I would like him back. I would Like Alou back too. Clement was great the first half but not the second half. No Run support for him at all. He's gone. Unfortunetly.

The Bullpen needs to be redone again!

2nd Base?
Shortstop?

Too many question marks this offseason. I hope they make the right decisions.
