I heard somewhere on talk radio today that if he ends up leading the league in scoring and is top 5 in assists it will be the first time in 32 years that someone has accomplished it.

I wasn't aware that that was a justification for being MVP. His numbers are better than anyone else's, he's obviously doing everything HE can to get his team to the playoffs. In fact, if they DO make the playoffs, it could be said that he carried them there all by himself, or if they don't, that he 'almost' carried them there all by himself.

Even though, as Peeps pointed out, MVP does not necessarily mean the 'best' player in the league, I think it is apparent that you can be one the handful of the very best players and still not get your team into the playoffs.
Kobe Bryant is on the short list of the best players in the league. But the rest of his team blows, well that's too bad for him. No playoffs. That doesn't make him any worse of a player. Does it make Shaq 'more valuable' than him, probably so. I would argue, however, that the 76ers win percentage would plummet without Iverson more than the Lakers percentage did without Shaq.
Sometimes the best numbers do not translate into the most wins, but that doesn't diminish the fact that someone indeed does have the best numbers. Iverson's numbers are not only the best, they are phenomenal. I think he should be rewarded for them.
i believe anyone that watched the Sixers Pacers game tonite will now believe that Iversons the MVP.
tied the game with a huge steal/fastbreak layup (stole it from Reggie. Reggie tried to chase him down but he didnt stand a chance)....then won the game with a clutch 18 footer with 7 seconds left.
43 points 7 assists...........all after playing 53 minutes last nite. unfucking believeable. most fearless player ive seen since Jordan.
