Was just wondering what you Americans think about this guy, who's about to fully buy the football (soccer) club Manchester United. Does he have a high profile over the pond and what do you think about him?

Apparently he's to saddle United with £250 million worth of debt. Lovely!

Yep, that's all I really know too. He isn't a high profile owner like a George Steinbrenner or Mark Cuban.

How are the tampa bay bucs run as a business? Nice profits or crippling debt?

United currently make about £30 million profit per year. If Glazer takes complete control and transfers his debt onto the club they'll need to make £48 million just to cover the interest.

A lot of people here in Tampa don't like him either, he got a sweet deal with the Tampa Sports Authority regarding profits on concessions, etc., and got the county to pay a lot for the stadium for the team to stay (they kept threatening to move unless they got a new stadium). I myself don't care for them (the Glazer family) and I don't like what they did to Tony Dungy.

The NFL is set up so there is no such thing as crippling debt. The NFL tv contract pretty much covers all of teams expenses, so owners basically pocket Local media contracts, ticket sales, etc.

He owns the Bucs and he's got a whiny sniveling voice that's incredibly annoying. He's good with money, an excellent investor who loves sports, but he's whiny sniveling and annoying when they interview him.

For a few years when Rich Mckay (now with the Falcons) was at the helm they won a Super Bowl. He seems committed to providing competitive, winning teams.

Yeah, the way he dumped Tony Dungy really sucked.

Yes, I concur and I also feel sorry for all Manchester United fans. This guy sucks a fat one and he was the cause for an increase in sales tax for us dang Tampa folks. That was how the Bucs got a new stadium and I've cursed the Glazer name since!

It's clearly a negative move for United. First off, the guy doesn't have nearly as much money as Abramovich, so United won't be able to compete the transfer market. Your Old Trafford tickets prices are going to skyrocket just to cover up his debt. Your team is already showing signs of collapse (relative to the 1990s success; 3rd place two years running is unheard for United, and no CL quarterfinals either), and under Glazer, I think you'll do even worse.

The bottom line, though, is that he just doesn't have enough money to own the team. Why let him?

This is bad news in a footballing sense,
but as a Manchester City fan I can't but help laugh

Utd could become the next Leeds Utd.
