first off: he shouldn't be in the hall of fame. The only reason he made it is because he was a "nice guy" and the media liked him. It's a joke that he can make it in, yet jim rice has not... but hey he made it congrats.
anyone else ever read his articles on yahoo sports?
they are awful (especially his comments on manny in the hall of fame)
saying he "take advantage of fenway".... maybe 1 out of 25 HR's hit there by him wouldn't be out at other parks. 9 out of 10 are moonshots sent over landsdown street.

Panties aren't the best thing in the world but they are the closest thing to it
and Manny should get in the first year he's eligible.

well, he's easily one of the least media-saavy players i've encountered, not counting the "complete a-hole" crew. you sure about that?

Who was a better 2B than Ryno in the 80's and 90's? Jesus, it's fucking asinine to say he shouldn't be in the hall. I think Santo should be in their too, but Sandberg is even more of a sure thing than he is/should be.

so i guess just because you place 2nd base, that allows you to have a lower offensive standard to get into the hall. and your relation with the media does matter since they are the ones that put you in the hall.... only explanation as to why rice isn't in. just compare his numbers to ryne's both played 16 years, makes it easy to compare..... hey while they are at it they might as well add lou whitaker to the hall too, pretty much the same numbers as HOF'r ryne sandberg.

Why does the position matter so much????
Because it's only fair to compare people based on position. Different style athletes are placed at different positions. You often have the big power hitters at 1st, but rarely playing 2nd, and so on.
Not that any of this matters. What Sandberg may have lacked offensively (and he wasn't all that bad there) he more than made up for defensively.

Question: do you think Ozzie Smith belongs in the HOF?
this isn't just any case in the position argument, though there isn't much doubt a good hitting second baseman is more valuable than a good hitting right fielder, but sandberg redefined the second base position.

If Lou Whitaker had stolen another 200 bases and picked up 5 or 6 more Gold Gloves, then yeah, maybe he would be there.
I absolutely love Sweet Lou, but even I can't put up a good argument for him to be in the Hall. Although there should be some unofficial monument to Trammel & Whitaker in there.

personally........ nope........ but then again he isn't opening his mouth saying Manny "took advantage" of Fenway and shouldn't be in the HOF. First off I don't see the position a player plays as being a big deal.. You hit .300 for you career Fantastic.......... you hit 500 HR's.......... you have 1500 RBI's......... you have 3000 hits GREAT. ozzie smith was FANTASTIC in the field, doubt anyone was better there. I'm not one to truly appreciate it I guess, and that is a factor i'm sure in the HOF. It just pisses me off when I see some people getting in because they were "fan favorites" / "loved by the media"
I just can't believe Ryne Sandberg would actually open his mouth right now about who should or should not be in the HOF.
Position should not matter...... they all play the same fucking game. An outfielder with the exact same numbers as a 2nd baseman should not be looked down upon because his position. They face the same fucking pitchers........ POSITION DOES NOT MATTER

Something tells me this is the real reason why you don't like Ryne Sandberg.

So, essentially, what you're saying is that offense is really the only aspect of a player's game that should be a factor in whether or not he gets in the hall?
