Was Richard Seymour's absence from yesterday's opening day of Patriots mini-camp merely a warning shot across the team's bow? Or is it a sign that the three-time Pro Bowl defensive end is hunkered down for a protracted contract battle?
Since Seymour's agent, Eugene Parker, didn't return multiple calls yesterday and Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said he didn't know what Seymour's long-term aim was, Seymour's intent is still forthcoming.
Seymour has made it clear in other venues that he feels he's in line for a raise, but his going on wildcat strike shows that the issue has now reached critical mass.
Meanwhile, Parker's firm (Maximum Sports) has a history of holding players out. It represents offensive tackle Walter Jones, an annual holdout candidate with the Seattle Seahawks.
And Seymour, who's entering the fifth year of a six-year deal, probably has more of a gripe than Jones ever did.

This genius move was followed by trading out of a spot where they could have gotten the last decent receiver in Robert Ferguson and settled for tackle Matt Light, who will not help any time soon.

Belichick will not be so lucky. He doesn't have (Jimmy) Johnson's personality, which can be as jovial and charming as a snake oil salesman's. Worse, this Patriot team isn't going to win two Super Bowls any time soon...

yeah he's washed up.... best years are definitly behind him. he's just too old now. LeBron James is getting near that age too... it's a shame he never quite blossomed into what people thought he would be, just hope he enjoys retirement and doesn't walk away from the game completely in the next few years. It's just too tough for athletes to compete on the professional level once they reach 25 years old.

yeah, I didn't look at his card sorry, 25 is obviously not old. I thought he was closer to 30, my mistake.
