190-All Out. Not the start that the Aussies had hoped for.

McGrath rattles Poms

An inspired spell of bowling from Glenn McGrath has put Australia on top after a thrilling first day of the opening Ashes Test at Lord’s.

When stumps were drawn, 17 wickets had fallen in three sessions and England was 7-92, in reply to the Aussies' first-innings total of 190.

McGrath took 5-21 from 13 superb overs and at one stage had the extraordinary figures of 5-2, as the home side was reduced to 5-21 early in its run chase.

:D

What a fantastic start to The Ashes...Harmison bowled like a beast but McGrath was just phenomenal. His spell reminded me of Ambrose when he would just run through the opposition...will be interesting to see how KP bats with the tail. Australia have the upper-hand at the end of the day but who would have guessed that would be the case at Tea time.

Instead of having a few beers last night the England team got together at Lords and spent 2 hours doing the rain dance!

Might be a good thing though for us. Some of the rain must have obviously seeped into the pitch, the cover will make it sweat and if it remains overcast Brett Lee's gonna get some serious reverse swing.

You'll be all out in less than a single session.

Q - How do you confuse an Englishman.

A - Give him a cricket bat.

How bad were they, only one guy in his first test showed some back bone. As for the top order the only time they have much of a clue was when they were watching their dismissal on the Lords screen. As for Hoggart or whatever his name is, he might want to think again before he shoots his mouth of about McGrath. Over the hill hey? I found it particuly amusing when Glen got him in the second innings.
England have more bunnies in their side than a pet shop at Easter. Pieterson was the only one that played with any confindence at all. Its hard to believe their was any discussion over him even being picked. Or maybe all the good English bats are playing County cricket. As for Jones, without a doubt the worst keeper I've ever seen. He was having trouble with the ones that were let go, let alone if one found an edge. Surley the local under 14's have someone who can catch. At this stage the Poms will go down 5 nil. The only thing that can save them is 2 days of rain per Test.

Injury rules McGrath out of Test

Veteran bowler McGrath is no stranger to ankle injuries
Australia star Glenn McGrath has been ruled out of the second Ashes Test at Edgbaston on the first morning.

His place was taken by Michael Kasprowicz, who joins Brett Lee and Jason Gillespie in the side.

McGrath, who tormented England at Lord's with nine wickets in a match-winning first Test performance, injured his right ankle in the warm-up.

Australia physio Errol Alcott told BBC Sport: "Glenn is in considerable pain and has minimal movement."

He added: "He has been sent to hospital for X-raying and we will know more about the injury as the day unfolds."

The Australian team had been practising with a rugby ball as an alternative to more traditional cricket routines an hour before the start of play.

But McGrath, 35, had to leave the Edgbaston outfield on a motorised buggy after stepping onto a stray cricket ball.

He had ankle surgery in 2003 and missed several months of cricket during the 2003-04 season, when Australia played nine Tests without him.

In that time, they could only draw a home Test series against India.

But that surgery was on the left ankle, not the one he damaged in Brimingham on Thursday.

One of the greatest matches of all time. England win by 3 runs. Finally G. Jones does 'something' in a game.
