Collins obviously has his faults/limitations, but don't under-estimate the things he CAN do well.

correct me if im wrong, but if owens holds out the eagles dont lose any $ right? i would think they would trade him before they released him so at least they are getting something in return

as a matter of fact, Charles Woodson got franchised, not Porter. His contract isnt all that big. As a Raider fan, T.O. aint worth the baggage. Porter is a solid #2 receiver, has a good attitude, and should have a great season. the raiders need some DB's more than they need T.O.

Right, sling the ball. Precisely what Al will want him to do. He can throw the ball far and hard, but I'd limit him right about there.
Whenever the pitiful giants o-line gave him some time, he was capable of making some special throws - throws most guys can't make.
But when protection breaks down, he's AWFUL. Most NFL QB's can usually buy some time and make a play, but Collins is lacking in this area. He lacks the ability to throw on the run, and his decision-making suffers a great deal when pressured.
So I guess it boils down to this: when he has time, he's better than most QB's. When he doesn't have time, he's worse than most QB's.

Typically, trading a player has the same salary impact ramifications as cutting the player outright. By this I mean the remaining pro-rated portion of their signing bonus rolls up onto this year's salary cap. However, if a player gets cut after June 1, the remaining pro-rated portion of the signing bonus gets split up between the upcoming season and the following season (this is why June 1 is when so many players get cut).
So basically, if the Eagles traded Owens, the remaining portion of his signing bonus would be on the Eagles' 2005 salary cap. If they cut him outright, only half of the remaining signing bonus would be on the 2005 salary cap, with the other half on the 2006 salary cap.
