This is probably a longshot, but I'm rooting for this to happen just to see what the Raider offense would look like.
Best WR combo ever?

How could they afford this? They BARELY got Moss in under the cap... seems like a dumb move to me anyway
players often re-structure their contracts when they're traded in the NFL. Probably wouldn't be a problem.
As far as it being a dumb move, it depends on what (if any) other players are involved in the deal.

What kind of restructuring could Al Davis possibly do to get the two (wannabe) highest paid WRs in the NFL on the same team? TO sure isn't going to take a pay cut and neither is Moss, and they'd literally have to tell just about everybody on the roster to slice their pay to fit these two guys on the roster... and you also have to wonder whether TO is going to do the same thing in Oakland and demand a higher contract (he probably will)... the Eagles would be best served (cap-wise) by just releasing him now

nobody has to slice pay, all they have to do is convert salary to bonus money and get creative. The downside is they get screwed when they have to cut one of these guys, but it's worth the risk in certain cases.
If the Eagles were to cut him now, aren't they responsible for the entire bonus on this year's cap?

With Kerry Collins at the helm? Hhahahahahaa
Collins obviously has his faults/limitations, but don't under-estimate the things he CAN do well.

correct me if im wrong, but if owens holds out the eagles dont lose any $ right? i would think they would trade him before they released him so at least they are getting something in return

I read something somewhere (ESPN Mag I think) that the cheapest thing for the Eagles to do right now is release him... do you not receive a cap penalty from trading somebody while their contract is still valid with your team?

Porter got franchised this year, so they're already paying him a bunch.
What I liked about the article was what Moss said:
Quote:
Yesterday, Moss told reporters he could co-exist with T.O. as long as he got the number of passes he deserves.
Which I'm sure is more than TO is willing to give up. If those two were teammates, I'm sure their egos would explode the entire team.
as a matter of fact, Charles Woodson got franchised, not Porter. His contract isnt all that big. As a Raider fan, T.O. aint worth the baggage. Porter is a solid #2 receiver, has a good attitude, and should have a great season. the raiders need some DB's more than they need T.O.
This is probably a longshot, but I'm rooting for this to happen just to see what the Raider offense would look like.

Right, sling the ball. Precisely what Al will want him to do. He can throw the ball far and hard, but I'd limit him right about there.
Whenever the pitiful giants o-line gave him some time, he was capable of making some special throws - throws most guys can't make.
But when protection breaks down, he's AWFUL. Most NFL QB's can usually buy some time and make a play, but Collins is lacking in this area. He lacks the ability to throw on the run, and his decision-making suffers a great deal when pressured.
So I guess it boils down to this: when he has time, he's better than most QB's. When he doesn't have time, he's worse than most QB's.

Typically, trading a player has the same salary impact ramifications as cutting the player outright. By this I mean the remaining pro-rated portion of their signing bonus rolls up onto this year's salary cap. However, if a player gets cut after June 1, the remaining pro-rated portion of the signing bonus gets split up between the upcoming season and the following season (this is why June 1 is when so many players get cut).
So basically, if the Eagles traded Owens, the remaining portion of his signing bonus would be on the Eagles' 2005 salary cap. If they cut him outright, only half of the remaining signing bonus would be on the 2005 salary cap, with the other half on the 2006 salary cap.
I hope that made sense.
