BOSTON -- The New York Yankees will begin the second half without the most consistent
On Thursday, the Yankees placed rookie right-hander Chien-Ming Wang on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation and purchased the contract of right-hander Tim Redding from Triple-A Columbus of the International League.
Since being recalled from Columbus on April 27, the 25-year-old Wang has gone 6-3 with a 3.89 ERA in 13 games, including 12 starts. He has turned in nine quality starts on a staff that has endured struggles by an otherwise veteran rotation.
Wang, 25 joins fellow right-handers Carl Pavano, who has managed to go just 4-6 with a 4.77 ERA in 17 starts since signing a four-year deal worth nearly $40 million, and Kevin Brown (4-6, 5.48 ERA) on the disabled list.
Redding, who was acquired in the trade that sent reliever Paul Quantrill to San Diego, was 0-5 with a 9.10 ERA with the Padres. Darrell May, who allowed seven runs in 4 1/3 innings in his first start with New York on Saturday, also was acquired in the deal.
To make room for Redding on their 40-man roster, the Yankees designated infielder Eric Crozier for assignment.

The Sheffield says he's done. I hope not bc we'd like someone to beat the Sox because we dislike Boston fans. Even more than Yankee fans who at least know something about baseball.
