Jody Gerut for Jason DuBois? DuBois is going to be one of those former Cubs that is successful with another team and people will ask "what were they thinking?" in 5 years. He'll go 35-100-.275 in two years, you watch.
Jody Gerut? Fuck.

This is a good trade. Jason Dubois looks like an extra from the Bad News Bears' movie playing left field. He will be better suited for the American League where he can DH. He may have good offensive numbers one day, but I'm sure with the Cubs' payroll, they will be able to replace him with a proven commodity before then.
What could the Cubs have done? They need to win in the next couple of years while they still have Wood, Prior and Zambrano. Dubois will not learn the position and become an All-Star during that time. If he butchers left field this year, he's not all of a sudden going to turn it around in the next couple of years. By that time, what good is he for the Cubs?
Plus, don't forget, the Cubs are by no means going to be sellers in the trade market. This could be a setup for a trade where they package either Gerut or Patterson with someone else.

Jody Gerut's decent for his age and experience. He's only a year older than Dubois, who has absolutely miserable plate discipline.
It's a bad trade for the Indians if you ask me.

yeah, mitchell's the shizznizzle. murton is great. dubois blows and he's gonna blow for his career. he's to slow. if he does become good, it's not like the indians are gonna win anyway. so don't worry about it. it's the dontrelle's and beckett's that kill ya. (two guys that should be in cubbie blue).
still waiting for the lead-off man jaun pierre to grace us on the north side.

Look at Clement and Farnsworth thus far...
Would about Clement? He was throwing the ball just as well with the Cubs as he is with the Red Sox. Here's the difference -- his run support with the Sox is almost 2 runs more per game than with the Cubs. He left because of financial considerations, not because he underachieved with them. As for Farnsworth . . . well, I shouldn't have to spell that one out for you. His actions Sunday speak for themselves (and if you're talking numbers, don't discount the fact that he's pitching in the cavernous Comerica Park in August as opposed to Wrigley).

Also with Farnsworth, he always had the knack to show streaks of brilliant pitching with the Cubs like he's doing now with the Tigers. However, he always choked when the pressure was on late in the season or in the playoffs. Not a lot of pressure right now with Detroit. I'm quite confident he'll start sucking it up again soon.

Why do you hate farnsworth so much? are his previous Mound meltdowns going to prevent him from being an effective pitcher? No one is claiming farnsworth is going to be Rivera or Bruce Sutter, but this year, he has proven to be a valuable bullpen contibuter... and yes, he does pitch in Comerica Park, a big ball park.. but if thats where he is going to be doing most of his work, who does it hurt?
a solid pitcher, having a great year, on a closerless team should get every opportunity to prove that he can close- and thus far he has.

I don't hate Farnsworth. But I also don't subscribe to the notion that being able to throw 100 MPH makes one a good pitcher.
I'm a Cubs' fan and a Tigers' fan (pity me, please), so I'm definitely rooting for Farnsworth. However, I think people look at his numbers this year and think Hendry made a mistake, which couldn't be further from the truth. Farnsworth has some serious problems mentally and emotionally. In short, he was not, and is not, a closer. He is a set-up man that shouldn't have the closer role thrust on him because of how hard he throws. He's one more meltdown away from being committed.
