I flipped on NFL Countdown yesterday (I know, I know...) and was thoroughly disgusted to hear the whole panel basically go around in a circle agreeing that since Bill Parcells left Miami the organization has been making bad decisions. Give me a freaking break. Parcells is the main person to blame for this whole disaster and the ESPN dominated sports media still acts like this guy is some sort of genius when it was his blueprint that ran this franchise into the ground. Oh, but he works for ESPN so he must be a legend.

I know very few of you probably watched it but ESPNU's coverage of the Mizzou vs. Missouri Southern (located in Joplin, MO) exhibition basketball game was very well done last night. The event raised close to $200,000 for Joplin tornado relief. The announcers were solid and the video packages were also great. Good to see they can still do some good work.

You'll know that its mission is complete when college football's already disingenuous postseason becomes an even bigger charade as ESPN overtly chooses the optimal television matchups for BCS games. And it will happen with everyone watching.
Isn't that better than the games being selected based on who will travel best? at least for most of us.

As more time goes on, I desire a playoff and a "true" national champion less and less. I'd much rather just have an entertaining slate of games and interesting debate.

The punchline arrived a couple of days ago when Sportscenter asked the following question of its audience, with a straight face: Is Tim Tebow overhyped?
are no different from what CNN does with Sarah Palin or whatever else. It's not gritty journalism, but I'm just not sure why ESPN should be held to a higher standard than news channels.

I don't see how they are. That "punchline" is the exact kind of thing Jon Stewart would say about CNN on The Daily Show.

I guess I just took it in the context of what had been said up to that point re: Longhorn network, etc. Corruption of ethics for monetary gain, or something along those lines, when I don't see that corruption going on in the case of Tebow.

Not to mention, CNN reports news, rarely are the driving force behind the story. So much of what goes on in sports (ncaa specifically) is actively influenced by ESPN.
