Monday Night Football will have a new home in 2006, but the faces on the telecast team will be familar to prime-time football.

Al Michaels, who will be in his third decade with MNF, will retain his post as play-by-play commentator when the show moves to ESPN in 2006, the network announced in a statement Tuesday.

Michaels, who will also appear on ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown, NFL PrimeTime and SportsCenter, will be joined by analyst Joe Theisman in the booth, with Suzy Kolber and Michelle Tafoya reporting from the sidelines.

"Monday Night Football and ESPN are the two biggest game changers in our industry in the last 30 years, and we have assembled a talent and production team that will reflect that," ESPN President George Bodenheimer said in the statement. "This team is a true collaboration of ESPN and ABC Sports, and clearly demonstrates the strength and promise of what our company can deliver."

Theisman, who led the Redskins to victory as quarterback in Super Bowl XVII, has been an NFL analyst for ESPN's Sunday Night Football since 1988. Kolber as been a sideline reporter for ESPN's Sunday Night Football since 2001. Tafoya, who joined ESPN in 2000, was named the sideline reporter for ABC Sports' Monday Night Football prior to last season.

"This NFL team will be unsurpassed," said Mark Shapiro, ESPN Executive Vice President, Programming and Production. "ESPN and ABC Sports NFL coverage has won the last two Sports Emmys for live event series, and this team positions us to take game coverage to an even higher level."

In April, ESPN and the NFL reached an eight-year agreement to move the Monday night broadcasts to ESPN beginning with the 2006 season, concluding MNF's 36-year run on ABC after this upcoming season.

well, that's about it for me and MNF. that sunday night football crew on ESPN was/is the worst football announcing crew ever. why take one of them and put him on MNF? to make it as bad as could be? i feel bad for michaels.

:?

I guess that I will have to mute the TV and do my own commentary/play-by-play.

Joe Theisman is absolutley horrible.

Its one step down from John Madden which I didn't think was possible.

BRING BACK LISA GUERERRO TO SIDELINE REPORTING! You can mute the TV if you want while she's talking...and it'd be no good during cold weather games cuz she'd have too many clothes on....but I really miss her.

What happened to her?

Totally, I hate Theisman. I thought with espn losing Sunday night games Theisman would have ended up on the Sunday morning pregame show or forced out the door. I can't believe they are dumping John Madden for Theisman. I am not a fan of Madden but Theisman is totally a step down. At least Theisman and Maguire will not be in the same booth together they were always bitching at each other throughout the whole broadcast of each game.

Tafoya's good but I'd rather watch Melissa Stark again.

He always says in that fat, blubbering voice, "I-I-I'm gonna cut it here and here, and e-e-eat the legs first, but [insert any Lion, Packer, Redskin or Cowboy here] could like another piece more... with this kind of thing, you j-just eat it. I'm so excited Pat!!!! It's turducken!!!!"

I think he does more analysis on which parts of the food he's going to eat than he does on the game.

how about everyone change their name to rhyme with an award they won't deserve to win, then somehow fool the suits at espn they're something other than a blabbering, loudmouthed moron.

one more reason to hate catholicism.

Theisman sucks, but it's so much fun to listen to the other two get into an argument.

This isn't saying much, but hopefully Theismann will be less annoying once he gets away from arguing Paul Maguire.

I say put Suzy Kolber in the booth with Michaels.

Madden is moving to NBC when it gets Sunday Nights. Interestingly enough, this will put on his resume service on all four major networks.
