Today Dusty and Hendry are glad they didn't follow Davo's advice and demote Neifi to single A ball . . .
i wouldn't doubt that. they'd probably have a better team, though.
Yeah, but that's like saying the Arizona Diamondbacks would have a better team without Craig Counsel. The Cubs need a little more than an upgrade at SS.

at least counsell walks. plus, i think his batting stance is enough to throw off the pitcher for at least two batters. that thing is ridiculous.

Speaking of upgrades at SS, if the Cubs think they'll turn the corner when Nomar gets back early next month, they're nuts. A middle infield with Walker and a rehabbing Nomar is scary bad.

what five in the national league are better?
Defensively?
better, as in to have playing on a baseball team.
I was commenting just from the defensive perspective. Walker's range is pretty limited to begin with, and with him coming off a sprained ACL in April, it didn't get any better. He usually has a hard time getting to balls up the middle.
As for Nomar, the knock on him before the Cubs traded for him was that his range was becoming more and more limited. After having his groin torn away from the bone in April, I can't imagine he'd be an upgrade over Perez.
Offensively, I can't argue. Walker's hitting over .300 and has had some big hits for them when they were especially needed (I think he's had a 15 game hitting streak going). Nomar may be able to hit the ball, but I'm wondering how effective he can be on the bases.
So, to answer your question, only time will tell. I'll probably be better able to answer it afer Nomar gets back. Right now, I just don't know.
