The season starts tonight. Lots of big shakeups in the off season. It should be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Detriot is looking really good and maybe even better than last year.

Anybody else excited, or care to make some predictions?

Miami, Indiana and Detroit are all the East has. And it's so painful to say that as a Celtics fan.

miami, indiana, detriot, and philadelphia are the only locks in the east...the question is...will the lakers make the playoffs?? i think they will...but some anaylsis on ESPN don't think they will.

based on their starting line up that i saw they don't look as strong just from looking. now this might change once i actually see how they play together, etc.

Finally.
Here is my thoughts:

Lakers should make the playoffs, they have the players, Divac (injured, I know) kobe who should go 30+ a game, Odom who is a jack of all trades, and there is still a chance that the mailman will play another season.

Will be interesting to see how the TMAC and Yao chemistry goes.

Drew Gooden or Gerald Wallace are my tips to win MVP

Noconni or Howard for Rookie of the Year.

Philly are not a contendor in the East, they struggled last season, and the only up grade they have was moving Iverson to the point, and bringing in Igoudala to the starting line up. However, the sixers are looking to off load Glenn Robinson.

Miami will dominate, and my tip to finish second. There is no other dominant Centre in the East with Magloire and New Orleans moving to the Western Confrence. Big Ben is a defensive Weapon, but as we saw in the finals last year, no way can he stop the Shaq attack.

Charlotte will win 15 or so games.

And the Cavs will finally make the playoffs (yay :) )

GO THE BULLS

I agree with the thoughts on the Sixers there. They haven't been a very strong team for a few years now.

Oh, also, San Antonio and Detroit will be in the finals, and detroit will win it. As you said Jim, the Pistons are better than last year with McDyess, Derek Coleman and others such as Carlos Delfino proving his worth. Also, hopefully Larry Brown will put his no. 2 dreaft pic from a year ago to good use, and give Darko some minutes.

Oh, and this will be Curry's and Kwame Brown's breakout seasons... hopefully.

the nuggets are going to be a breakout team in the west. now i don't really know if they can compete with teams like San Antonio or Minnesota but they defintely have a very impressive roster of guys there.

That they will, they now have the deepest and best forward rotation in the League, which will help them in the taller talented west. However, they really have no defence tall player, which may hurt them, which showed today when they allowed usual back up centre Chris Mihm scored 23 points, is season best, and all they Lakers talls, which they really lack a good one bar Divac. This will REALLY hurt them in the tall dominant west.

In other games, the Yao and Tracy McGrady didnt go all that well. In the first half they had 7 points between them, and Yao finished up with 7 points, he was in foul trouble for a large part, but he didnt put enough shots. However, TMAC scored 15 in the 2nd and Yao only 3.

Lastly, the Mavs and Kings had an all offensive fest. Dirk played awsome, scoring 33 and hitting 11 from 17 (for memory). Really looking forward to see how the Dallas rookie, Point Guard, Devin Harris goes, looks to be the most likely to contribute.

I hope Kobe Bryant breaks his leg. Derek Jeter and A-Rod are my heroes compared to that fuck.

okay, let me first say that for the last three or four years, Kobe has, by far, been my favorite NBA player to watch. i think he deserves all the credit he gets, because in my eyes, i considered his caliber of play to be comparable, comparable not better, to that of Jordan back in the day.
but can i just say i am REALLY starting to get tired of ESPN's coverage of Kobe and the Lakers. can Kobe do this, can Kobe do that? will be be able to lead? looks like he can, after last night. IT WAS ONE GAME. let the season start and find a new story. cripes, ever since the trade of Shaq, you'd think nothing else is important in the world of the NBA except how Kobe and the Lakers do. uuggh. i am just tired of every NBA story on ESPN involving these two entities. sorry for the rant.

The Sixers should be the 4th seed in the East and a very exciting team to watch.

Detroit vs Minnesota.........How boring does that sound

I hate when people compare kobe to jordan. Just like Magic Johnson said on Inside the NBA last night. Michael Jordan was not only an amazing player for his skills but also his ability to make teammates better. And I honestly haven't really seen Kobe do that. Sure Kobe's skill is up there, I will give him that. but as far as being as good of an all around player as Jordan he is not. But here is his chance to actually prove to me that he can do it. With Shaq and all of the other talent that the Lakers had in past years he didn't really have to make them better because they were already good. But now when he is on a team with a little less talent than previous times he can step up and be a leader. And when/if he does that then I will give him some credit.

the comparison was at skill level, not team player. thus caliber of play, not leadership skills, is comparable.

ahhh, ok. well then in that case I will say that he is up there with Jordan but I would still say Jordan was better.

Why is it that when you misspell Detroit, it ends up with the word "riot". Man, talk about guilty by association. :P
Jim wrote:

The NBA right now kind of reminds me of that period when Jordan walked away after the first 3 titles, it's anyone's ring to win. That said, Houston won back to back titles with stingy defense and great coaching in those years, overcoming teams that were flashier and maybe more talented than they were.

San Antonio is my favorite in the west, followed by Detroit in the East. Indiana is close as well.
