i'm not bashing - i'm just trying to understand. your team just traded a minor league prospect for matt lawton. no big deal. in fact, i was surprised it wasn't griffey. some of you are probably surprised to know you even have a farm system.

it just seems to me that being a yankee fan would be about as much fun as buying legos that have already been put together.

anyone else get what i'm trying to say? as a twins' fan, i can honestly say that watching the team we have right now is just as much fun as watching the '87 and '91 championship teams was. we went through about 8 shit ass years, but they just made the past 4 that much more satisfying. so seriously, what drives a yankees' fan to give 2 shits?

this is a good question. I've been a yankee fan my whole life. Yes, the last 3 years have been hired players. I will not deny that. I wish the yankees still had the team they had in the nineties. I'm honestly not that familiar with the player they traded for lawton. While I'm pissed they have traded some prospects in the past, I also can appreciate them wanting to win a championship every year. Some teams will go thru the motions of pretending they want to win. Why do the cubs have loyal fans? they have sucked for years and barely do anything to improve. Year after year they dissapoint their fans, but yet the fans come back every year. The way you look at the yankees is the way i look at a team like the cubs. Why cheer for for them? Because they don't trade their prospects? who gives a shit? what matters is an ownership putting a winning team on a basebal field. Actually giving a rats ass. I'm sorry, but Cubs fans are fools. the Cubs will win when fans stop going to games. Why should ownership care? they pack the seats year after year.

So to answer your question. I cheer for the yankees because I'm a Yankee fan.

I cheer for the Yankees because I grew up as a Yankee fan. I became a Yankee fan because I lived in the NY metropolitan area in a town where I could get the Yankee games on TV. At the time when I was getting interested in baseball, many of the Met games were on a pay-per-view channel that I didn't get.

I do wish that the Yankees would bring more players up through their farm system, especially since this helped them win the four championships in the late nineties. I know that a WS championship now won't be as satisfying for me as the '96 or '98 championships were. Still, I root for the Yankees because I don't know who else I'd root for and because I still love seeing players like Bernie, Tino, and Rivera succeed.

This is a good question. I'm so fucking sick of teams like the Patriots (right now), USC, and the Yankees, and the Lakers a couple years ago...seems like, as a fan of a team like that, you would start to take winning for granted. It's like your excitement over winning is far outweighed by your disappointment over losing..like you're more relieved than excited by a win. So yeah...what makes you cheer?

Yeah. I mostly hate USC. Always have, always will....but I will say, it's nice to have a Pac-10 team in the spotlight. Too bad it's fucking SC though.

No, I just hate those teams. I wish I had the same problem.

i dont even want to hear that shit....

every year i watch the playoffs and the yanks and twins end up making it and the announcers make a big deal about the little ole twins and the payroll difference..

instead of talking shit on the yanks, why dont everyone talk shit about the cheap ass twins owner who gets revenue sharing $$ from george stienbrenner every year..why dont you talk about the great players he gets with the cash,..oh thats right..he dont get players with georges cash..he pockets it..great guy..

You have a good point, but you still have to think about how much money teams like the Yankess and Sox generate compared to the small market clubs.

Even as a Yankee fan, I find the "other owners pocket the cash" argument a little shaky. I don't think George would spend as much as he does if he didn't know that he could turn a profit on it. I think this is why he didn't add Beltran last winter. The payroll right now is as high as it can go. Owners in places like Kansas City or Minnesota can't possibly expect to generate as much money as the Yankees, Mets, or Red Sox, so they spend less but may still operate on the same general principle as George. I don't know the exact figures so it's possible that these owners actually spend significantly less than the limit at which they would stop seeing profits. Then, the "they pocket money" argument would be reasonable, but again, I don't know the appropriate statistics.
