Maddux has made well over $100 million in his career - which is probably at least double what any previous player turned manager has ever earned. Unless he has a burning desire to stay in the game, why would he want to pass up playing golf 5 times a week for the rest of his life?

that's fine, but your logic was that he's rich so why should he stay in the game unless he has a burning desire to do so. he's basically indicated he has a burning desire to do so.
i'm sure he gets plenty of golf in on off days and winter.

yeah... i agree... maddux will stay in baseball... he obviously loves the game and has one hell of a competitive fire burning inside him
while the title of this thread is probably still correct, it looks like the cubs are gonna juggle the rotation a bit to give mad dog an extra start before the end of the year, so he still has a shot at 15.

I really don't have any insight one way or the other - I'm just saying it will be interesting if he becomes a coach/manager because he will be the first guy (I think) from the generation of players that made HUGE $$ to take a position like that.

Well, I'm glad he and Tommy got the money they wanted late in their career, they will be well taken care of after baseball.
Mad dog is a hall of famer.
I do hope Glavine will get to 300, had he stayed in Atlanta, he'd probably be there by now but to each his own. I understand Maddux going to the cubs. Glavine to the Mets was just stupid if he cared about anything other than the monitary gain.
I'd probably go the Dante Bichette route and coach little league.

I really hope Maddux makes it to 15. The guy has been my favourite player since his first major season with the Cubs and throughout his time with the Braves. He is a first balloter hall of famer and will be one of the best pitchers ever in the game.
Everyone who has had the pleasure of being on his side from Bobby Cox, Leo Mazzone to Dusty Baker have all said that he has the best baseball mind they have ever met and he would be one hell of a manager let alone pitching coach.

Ask the pitchers that he's pitched with if he's a good coach or not. Guess what they'll say. Go ahead. Ask dozens of Braves pitchers (and Cubs) if he helped their career through his advice or leadership.
