AH Retired today. it was just a matter of time. He was a great Knick, hit one of the greatest shots in Knicks history (one of countless fuck you's to the hated Heat), and helped the Knicks get to the finals in 99, almost single handedly beating the Pacers in game 6 in the finals.

I was at the game last night, and asshole Knicks fans actually booed Houston during intros. Sometimes people get too hung up on contracts and shit, like if someone gave them $100 mill to do their job theyd have the moral fiber to say no thank you....Houston got what the idiot Knicks ownership threw at him, not his fault. He worked his ass off to try and play again, and should be applauded for his desire to play again. like he wants to end his career like this.

Thanks again Allan Houston. Thanks for the memories!!

I liked him as a player, but that contract choked the life out of the Knicks.

I am very happy he is calling it quits. he had some nice moments over the years but he really has been done for two years now. More importantly, how does this effect the cap?

his contract comes off the salary, but the knicks have to pay for every knee replacement he'll need over the course of the rest of his life.

Dolan will just raise my cable bill to pay for that. He still had two years left right?

It sucks he had to go out like this. We never got to see the Houston/Marbury backcourt in action over a full season with both of them healthy.

In the 99 playoffs, he practically took over games and willed the team into the finals (along with Spree). There was a game or two against the Pacers that year where he completely dominated and embarassed Reggie Miller...

That said, it was time for him to go.

ive been defending AH all day at work. people, knicks fans, seem to HATE houston like ive never seen....

He didnt play great defense, but he wasnt as terrible as some fans like to think.

He didnt create his own shot all that well, yes

But he was as clutch a shooter as there was, and he was simply one of the best pure catch and shoot guys ever, a 50% jump shooter with ice water in his veins.

I was there Sunday at the garden and the crowd booed him during intros. that was sad, knowing how hard Houston tried to play again. I hope he stays with the Knicks in some way

sure he had weaknesses. He couldn't guard you or me, and he didn't exactly fill up the box score (no rebounds, steals, or assists), but he was a LETHAL shooter. Like you said earlier, it's not his fault Dolan and Layden paid him double what he was worth. Unfortunately, that will be part of his legacy.

why? He had his best years after he left. And its not like Dumars would have given him that insane contract.

The problem was that a team can't take up such a huge salary slot on a guy who can just shoot. I liked Houston's game, but I'll like the freed up salary spot more.

I didn't hate Houston, but he was not a great player by any means, and yet he was touted as such, and paid as such, and that got in the way of the Knicks actually having a great player during the last five years.

And IMO, as well as Houston played in that 99 playoff run, it was Sprewell that "willed" the team to the finals.
