I'd love to see some of the writers who voted for Colon be forced to defend choosing him over Santana. What a joke.
Normally I wouldn't even consider a closer, but I think Mo Rivera might have even been a better choice this year that Colon.
When are people going to stop looking at "wins" as the most telling stat for starting pitchers?

did Rivera have as dominant a yr as Gagne had in 2003? people made a fuss about a closer winning the cy but Gagne was the most dominant pitcher that year so he deserved it. I know Mo had a down year, but was he that dominant?

although it never should be a factor, do you suppose the fact that no one pitcher had an obviously blow the world away-type yr that playoff position had an influence?

I agree that too much emphasis is put on wins for Cy Young voting. Too often do the voters look at how the team was on the season. Santana had better stats and probably should have won it.

Tubbo, I know your just pushing me buttons, but Ill rant and rave anyway. mostly because im one day away from a week off of work and im not in the working mood...
Gibby was in deed the MVP in 88. Not looking at stats, from the second he went apeshit in spring training till he hit the greatest HR in baseball history, he changed the Dodgers from laughingstocks to champs.
His attitude and hustle and leadership is what made that 1988 team win. I know that argument wont hold water to people who didnt follow that 88 season, but its true. Kevin MacReynolds had better stats, but that year was one time where the award was given to the player who was most VALUABLE to their team, not the best stats.
now let me relive 88 while Frank McCourt burries the franchise deeper and deeper.....
